kids at weddings

Original post by yabbobay

there has been a lot of talk about this subject and I just wanted to share with you guys what I experienced the last few days..

1. my wedding was in the afternoon...if it were at night...I may not have made the decision that I did.

2. I invited children to my wedding...but close ones...not everyones...nieces and nephew (of course) and my 1st cousins children (ages 7-14)
they had such a great time...it reminded me of the first wedding that I went to...

3. this weekend my uncle passed away and at the wake and funeral I was talking to my cousins wife...she kept telling me how much that her kids loved the wedding and what a great time they had and thanked me...
a. she said that her kids can't stop talking about it 6+ months later... AND
b. that her daughter danced with her grandfather (my uncle who passed away) and they felt so lucky that they were able to have that last time with him...

It just touched me so much and I felt so good that I did invite them...and I thought I would share...

Re: kids at weddings

I'm only having a few kids at the wedding. The youngest will be 4 and the oldest 14. 7 total. We decided that we would not invite the babies- by the time October gets here, there will be 3 newborns and a 1 &1/2 year old. I personally didn't want any crying babies at the wedding. Not to mention, I didn't want to have to pay that much money for a seat for an infant. It was a big debate b/t FH and I, but in the end we agreed.

Re: kids at weddings

My FH and I have both decided that we would invite children to the wedding. Frank is from a huge Italian family and all of his cousins have kids. We're trying to plan things to keep them distracted - we'll have bubbles outside the church instead of rice, and chocolate wedding favors. I'm also going to try to put together a goody bag of stuff like coloring books & crayons, UNO cards, etc to keep them distracted. Frank insisted that we get the novelties package through our dj so they'll have hats and sunglasses to play with. I'll never forget the first wedding I went to when I was 8. It was great! While all the adults were dancing, I went around the table and finished off everyone's champagne .

That's a great story- I'm having all my first cousins at my wedding.. the range in age from 4 to 35! I couldn't have some and not all. That is such a beautiful story, thanks for sharing it.
