Anyone know how to make it? We used to have it with eggs on easter morning at my aunts house. Its been years, and I'd love to make it.

Re: Kilbasa for Easter
I just want to cook it! My aunt used to make it with eggs on Easter morning. we used to have it for dinner at my house cooked in the frying pan. It was reddish in color. The one my aunt made was kind of gray looking.

Re: Kilbasa for Easter
I don't know where you live, but if you look in the yellow pages for a Karl Emher, they sell it fresh, all you have to do is boil it and cut it. Or you can buy one at the supermarket by Hillshier farms. The directions on how to prepare it should be on the package. My dad goes to a polish deli in Greenpoint and buy a fresh smoked one and mom boils it for a few minutes to cook it. We have it on Christmas and Easter too!

Re: Kilbasa for Easter
I have never had it for breakfast! But I make it two different ways!
1) Fry it with peppers and onions with butter(little bit of garlic) and serve over rice
2) BBQ it with BBQ sause. You cut it into 4 inch pieces and slice it the long way. You then put BBQ sauce on the out side and inside and lay it falt on the grill and cook to you desire!
For breakfast I am guessing you would fry it!

You can buy it at Sikorski's in bethpage, or Rapacki. My mother use to make it in the frying pan, oven, and on the bbq. Good luck

Re: Kilbasa for Easter
if your making it kriana style with is smoked all you have to do is fry it with a lil butter in a frying pan. if you want the fresh kind you have to boil it first but dont overboil it untill it changes color is a greyish and then crisp it up in the oven. if you want to make it either with sauerkraut fry up some salt port and onion with a lil lard lol and throw in some caraway seeds brown it a lil and then add to a baking dish with the cut up kielbasa and fresh sauerkraut and bake.

Re: Kilbasa for Easter
FMIL told me that she boils it and then puts it in the oven so it gets a little crispy. I don't think I'm doing it now because here in my area (San Francisco Bay Area) there are no polish butchers or anything like that, and I can't find it anywhere. Oh well, I'll do it next year I guess.
