Kind of lied to the priest

Kind of lied to the priest

I have to get something off my chest here and get some advice too. First, in my defense, my mom and dad told me to do it. We went to the interview with the priest last night and I lied and said I still live home with my parents. I didnt want any wierd complications with saying we lived together. I know it was wrong, but now its too late. Can I get caught? I am feeling soooo guilty and all my parents do is laugh and say I am being too sensitive. I am so sorry I did it... I am going crazy about it. Im not even a religious person either. Please give me some comforting words or if I am going to get caught.

we were going to tell a lil fib but decided against it b/c i had a feeling we aren't the only couple nowadays living together
it worked out for the better b/c we didn't lie and he didn't care about it anyway!!

We did the same thing. We told the priest and the rabbi that I live with my parents and FH lives in our apartment. It is just easier that way and won't cause any complications. Don't worry. You won't get caught and it's not a big deal. A lot of people do it.

O please girl........I told my priest the same thing...and I feel fine, no conscience here ..........at least this way you don't have to hear him tell you about living in sin and what not.

I told him we lived together and at first he got weird about it but now it is fine. I didn't even think about lying about it. After he said something, I thought, maybe I shouldn't have said that!
Oh well, what is he going to do??

We told the priest we have been living with each other for 3 years. He didnt even flinch. Funny thing was when he was going through what we had to do for the church he said we had to publish the announcement in the church newsletter and the newsletter in our town parish. He asked if it was that was ok, because if not he could work it out where we wouldnt have to print it in our town parish newsletter to avoid any problems with us renting in a private home. I thought that was very nice of him!!!!!

When we went to our foccus 'test' there was a couple sitting next to me. The priest stated everyone fills questions 1-168(??) #'s 168 -178 are for interfaith #'s 178-188 are for people co habitating.. the guy next to me goes oh that is us and the girl yells at him what did we just discuss in the car..he kept saying yeah but we live together...and she was like i dont want to get into it with the priest...
No if I heard this I am sure someone else heard it too.

Just make sure everyone is on the same page with you decision so it dons't come out by accident.
Then go to confession

Re: Kind of lied to the priest

I would say that the only way you would get caught is if you gave him the phone # of where you live together and your answering machine says both your names. We wer honest with our priest (we live together) and he said he appreciated that rather than call and find out from the answering machine, that's why I mention it.

Just FYI....there were 2 other couples in our pre-cana group and they lived together too.

LOL...

I can't lie to save my life, and I would never feel the need to in this case. We live in a different day and age, living together is not really that frowned upon anymore...JMO...

These days the Catholic church have much bigger things to worry about than whether or not a couple getting married are already cohabitating.

I lied too. I felt so bad but it was for the better.

I personally think it's none of their business where I live. It's not like they don't already assume we're having sex.

I never got that.

Oh, no we don't live together.. nope.. we just hook up for some nookie at a hotel.. I'd rather say .. Yes, we live together in a healthy relationship. We know now that we can sustain a relationship which we are together.

I know some couples who were great until they got married and lived together then things went bad. Some stuff you do at home can drive other people nuts. *shrug*

Did he ask you why your getting married? Our priest did and luckly my future mother in law prepped me to say- 'because we are in love and we want to have children'. i never would of thought about the children part on my own. .i mean eventually yeah but not right away for us.
i fibbed too and i do feel guilty. they also asked how often we attend church.. truth is christmas and easter but my FH said like 5-6 times a year.

Re: Kind of lied to the priest

Ok so I am going to leave it the whole thing as is. I live with my parents and he lives at the apt.

It is jsut that I am worried that when I get the marriage license it will say the same address as Nick. Will the priest see that? I really dont know how this all works as you can tell.

I am also scared that at pre-cana, something will slip out!

I am such a worrier by nature. But you all made me feel sooooo much better about lying!

Diane

Don't worry about it one bit. So you lied. A- your a grown up, so you have the right to decide what you want him to know and what you don't. B- You are just as entitled as anyone else to live with your FH if you choose to.

Worst case scenario- if he finds out you are living with your FH just tell him that with all the planning you found yourself more and more at his place so it was just easier to move in and it just recently happened. See Lie Solved :)

But honestly, I don't see you getting caught and I feel you have nothing to worry about.
