so i am going over the list for my wedding invitations (putting together all the addresses to send for envelope printing)
when we first booked at JT we thought it would be hard to reach the minimum of 175 but we wanted the room so we went with it....
a few months ago we started a guest list for the wedding and we were shocked at how many people there were to invite - it was INSANE, we had almost 250 on the list (so much for worrying about not meeting the minimum!) after that i decided not to look at the list ever again honestly my FH and I rather be under the minimum than go over it and have to shell out even MORE money - we figured at least if we were under we may be able to get some extras throw in and we feared going over....
fast foward to today....after making some cuts and agonizing over the list we are at 220 and the majority of the list are people from OOT or people that my parents added that i cant imagine coming (people we lost contact with and people who havent seen me since im like 6 )
i actually think that after looking at the official list today that we probably wont even make the minimum - i think we might be closer to 130 guests than meeting 175 - thats just my guess though - but im kind of relieved about it, a little sad that it wont turn out to be a 'big' wedding BUT i really dont think we are going to go over which is nice....i just dont know how i'll react when i see all the NO responses come in b/c i think there are going to be A LOT of them - i hope it doesnt upset me then....but i dont think so, since most will be from people i dont even know - i just dont want to feel rejected

its funny because i can totally picture myself feeling bummed out when 'so and so' from 'out of state' responds NO - even though im 99% sure that is the respone i am going to get (especially when its OOT people that dont even know us!), but for some reason i still can see myself getting bummed about it...i guess because deep down you want everyone to want to be there, even if they dont actually know or remember you

We invited 237 thinking that a lot of people would say no - but ALL of our OOT guest are coming! So you can never be sure! We're 67 people over our minimum!!

You will be suprised at who you think will say no and says yes and those you think will say yes and say no.
Also -- inviting 220 and thinking you will have 130 is a big difference I would be prepared for a higher number!

see that is what i thought would happen, i had such a bad feeling we would go over, but i dont know, i just have a feeling nobody is going to come we had about 90 at our eparty, so i know all those people will be there hahahaha - so i know we'll break 100 but i cant see ANY of the people my parents invited actually showing up, LI is out of the way for them AND they dont really know me and my parents dont really keep in contact with them, im not really sure why they were invited in the first place it would be really nice if they did come but i just dont know why they would want too...

You'd be surprised. We had a lot of people we thought we going to be 'no's', but I guess since they've known for a year now about the wedding, they are saying 'yes'.....it's totally unpredictable...

FH thinks we're going to be under and I think we're going to be over. I'm really hoping that we're under so maybe we can get some free stuff thrown in like you said .
Right now our guest list is at 270 . We're giving singles the option of brining a guest and know that not all of them will bring a guest. When I guess at who's coming and who's not we get to 200, but FH thinks I over-estimate how may people are really coming..that our wedding is right inbetween both holiday's when many are out of town. We'll see.!!!
Good luck...i do think that you might have a higher response than 130 with 220 invited...but again...u never know.

see the thing is about 60 people on the list are long lost family members on my side - lots are OOT and unfortunately some of them have a vendetta against my parents or are mad b/c my parents dont keep in touch with them so i think they will boycott the wedding - which is terrible, but i cant imagine them showing up - maybe a handful of them will, but def not all of them - my family is drama filled - im not even sure how my parents had their addresses b/c most of these people probably moved by now we also have some family in florida and out of those people only my parents and grandparents (hopefully my grandparents can still make it) are coming - so that takes out a lot of people as well but we are sending courtesy invitations anyway
we are counting on ALL of my FHs family to attend, they all always attend all the weddings and parties...the only people that will be missing are some of FHs cousins from italy...
so i think its going to be rough to meet 175 - i would like to come in at around 170-185 but i dont think its going to happen

Hey girl! I was in your shoes at one time. We invited 300 people and ended up with 163! Can you BELIEVE THAT ONE! We had over 50% OOTs though. But we still figured we'd have 200-210 rsvp yes but that didnt even happen. It was crazy. Thank god we changed our min from 200 to 175. We were still under but used our vendors to make up the difference.
Anyway, dont stress it. You will have an AMAZING day even if those so-called estranged family members dont show. I didnt even think once about our family didnt show or DH's good friends who didnt come. All I thought about was us and I was so happy! Plus a smaller wedding is much more manageable. We were able to see and talk to everyone! you'll be thankful!

yeah i keep thinking that if we are under (even if its by A LOT) it will be ok....we had a great time at our eparty and there were about 90 people there and if those are the only people that show to the wedding i know it would still be a great time...i rather it be all the people we see and know, instead of strangers - i think its more special when its just close family....and it would be nice not to owe any more money - i guess i will see what happens in a few weeks after we send out the invites!

ITA with you - i didn't want strangers at my wedding and didn't have any - that said, i also just wanted to make our minimum and I invited 143 (including guests) and just made the minimum of 110 - that was with two of my friends from school filling in for a last minute cancellation from a co-worker. I got a lot of no's for the number i invited (and NO OOT!) but I was happy with that.
you don't really want to pay for people who aren't there but I get what you're saying. you can always invite some LIW girls - I've never been to a wedding at JT!

whats funny is that i know more about people on here (even though its not 'real life' chatting) than people in my own family!! LIW is like a crazy cult clan

We were the total opposite of everyone, we invited over 170 and didn't reach the min of 75-oh well. there is about 74 with 3 kids under 12.
