Kinda bummed...
Last night I was on the phone with a friend of mine; we're really close, but she lives in Maui so with the time different, we don't talk much. We've been playing phone tag for a few weeks now, with either of us calling back while the other is sleeping or at work.
Anyway, backstory - she and I have been friends since we were 15. Sat together at h.s. graduation; college brought her out west to Oregon, but we maintained our friendship throughout the years and distance. Now she's in Maui (by way of Bali, Greece and Thailand), as she works in sea turtle research.
Last night I *finally* had a chance to tell her that we set a date and she told me she may not be able to make it...she's applied to a program for sea turtle research in Australia and if she gets accepted, she'll start in the beginning of June 2010. I knew all along that she might not be able to make it (flying in from Maui would be pricy!) and I really hope she makes it into the program since it's her passion...still a little bummed that she most likely won't be there though. She was actually very upset about it, almost to the point of crying.
I had kind of prepared for her to not make it since it'd be expensive to fly, but now that I know it's a big possibility (I can't see her not getting accepted; she'd gotten into every program so far), reality is setting in.
