but I know you 08'er girls are wonderful and wont mind helping me out...
but FH and I are unsure how to set a realistic budget for our wedding-- we dont have anything booked yet. We want to get married May 24th 2009 it is the Sunday before Memorial Day so we can have it at night which is great. But we are still unsure we might end up getting married August of 08 (but not too sure cause FH will be in Japan till July of 08 and I will be planning alot of it on my own- so we have to check out prices and decide which is best for us)
anyway- sorry for the tangent lol
we were thinking around 30,000-40,000$ budget hopefully. we are pretty much paying for it ourselves but have a good amount saved up already....
we are inviting around 150-175 people and we are thinking 100$ pp is a good price and our hall would prob go for 25,000$ the most and still have a good amount of $ for other vendors- so besides the hall the photo/video are the next most important thing to us but we are so confused on how to budget (flowers/dress parents are buying so we are covered there and FH's parents =RD)
help please!!!
sorry i know it is long

yeah we have an ING account where we put in $$ every paycheck and Fh puts in a little more like i said for now...and we dont touch that money at all...we didnt even use it to help pay for the e-party
but i am suprised how much we actually saved in a year....and if we wait till May of 09 we would triple what we have now cause it is two more years to go....and i believe we are on our way to a good start

Re: Kinda clueless...sorry its long
Catering hall for us (100 people) will be from 9000
we budgeted 5K for photo and video (we got that at patken)
we budgeted 1000 for DJ and we got it from ceremony to reception for $900 (1mc 1dj)
we're budgeting 1000-1200 for all flowers
500-700 for bp gifts (7 people)
$100 for invites, programs & placecards ( i am doing them myself)
$700-$800 for favors went over budget in that department
Extra's for the wedding - (decorations, extra votives, etc) $400
FH's Tux - $100
NO limos and we are being married for free by the mayor of lindy at CH since he is family. My mother is paying for my dress and acces. for the wedding day. (saved $$$ there)
So we are about $18,200 our honeymoon will be probably 2k if we have enough money to go. We want all money for all vendors in the bank before even thinking of a honeymoon. We will not charge anything we can pay right away.
The only added expense is my bach party which I may need to pay for myself.
So in the end I think your pretty damn good esp. with the help you are getting from your parents.

That's awesome!!!! I love hearing that from couples!!
For a long time, I spent everything I made. I would just shop, shop, shop, shop.
As soon as we got engaged, I started saving and stopped shopping. It has really made a difference and I'm so less stressed because of it.
Good for you guys.
Just a tip for those girls who may be wondering - how the hell do they do that? Say you have 3 credit cards almost maxed and you're paying each card like $50/month b/c the minimum payment is $30 - so you want to pay that extra $20 to each card... STOP.
Take one card (preferably the one with the highest rate) and pay above the minimum on that one... So if it's $30 pay $90 and pay the minimum on the other two. Don't try to distribute the higher payments to every card.
Just focus on one card and before you know it, you'll pay it off... Then concentrate on the next one...
Good luck with saving everyone!!!!

GREAT BUDGET!!!!
FH and I should just get married in the winter and it would be less $$ haha but we both hate the cold..so it doesnt work
but yes i am very grateful my parents offered to pay for my dress/assec and our flowers and i am not even going crazy with flowers i want to keep that in budget....

We also have 401K for backup....then just pay ourselves back.
I would strongy suggest money market accounts.....! Quick turn around on ur money..if you are willing to risk it.

Ugh yeah the problem was FH, he needed and still kinda needs to stop shopping...Also the way he charges his cards drives me NUTS!!!! I cancelled every credit card...i only have my debit ...Finally Fh paid off all the balances on his credit, cancelled most of them after and left one card with a smaller amount on it for emergencies...The problem was he had a CC with a very high limit and he would go crazy.
I like paying everything in cash...no interest to pay later on what you just bought...if i paid $50 for something, its done with thats it, not after interest paying like $75 for it down the line

some people dont realize how much they are actually paying for something when they charge it...especially those who pay the minimum payment or just a little over...That balance you have will just keep growing and that minimum you are paying really isn't doing anything for you at all. YOu can end up paying double for what you bought or paid for.

I KNOW! i ran up high credit card debt bc i was getting my BA and MA at the same time so i couldnt work that much and i was working at a supermarket but i still needed money for books etc. but i couldnt get myself out of the hole!
but then i consolidated everything on one card that has no interest until April 2008 and now i cant believe how much it is going down!! and i have one credit card for emergencies and everything is on my Visa debit card now . . . i feel so much better!

thats how my FH is...i mean he has a couple credit cards but pays everything on time and even has Excel spreadsheets for every month and his bills and balances his account on Excel-- he is anual... he got mad at me when i payed my cell phone a day later
thankfully i am getting to be a little more like him- no excel spreadsheet yet
