when my stepdad passed away we got so many flower arrangements and they just die... so when we got something different like an edible arrangement or something like that it was soooo refreshing to not get flowers.
one of my bms grandmother passed away on sunday and i want to send them something but not flowers. the edible arrangements that aren't small and cheap looking are $$$ so i need some ideas! pleaseeeeee help!

Are they local? I believe that Panera Bread will deliver a basket of stuff - be it sandwiches, pastries, etc. I usually send a peace lilly, which is a house plant - lasts much longer than flowers.

Re: kinda depressing question
When my uncle died She ( my aunt) requested no flowers so I sent a basket of Mrs. Fields cookies to her house.
I agree with Barb, food is the way to go. When my papa passed away we had so many flowers but the food was great because people kept stopping over and we always had something to offer

Re: kinda depressing question
When I lost my husband, I rec'd alot of things as people knew how I felt about large floral arrangments that die right away... Food was great to receive (honeybaked ham, harry david, Wolferson's english muffins (loved them now I order as holiday gifts...Williams Sonoma croissants...,)
I also recall a few other things:
-donation was made to feed the hungry at a local church... I know that was touching to me...
-a few different type outside plants for the garden (one azalea, one rose plant) They went to the funeral home with a note and I took them home and planted them in my garden..They are great reminders to me of my husband.
-Green plants for the home...They last and don't die.. I rec'd alot of them so some were donated to the school and nursing home....
-I would caution about fruit- as it spoils quickly and if they get alot of it, it may go to waste.. If it is the cut one, then I am sure people will pick at it while gathering...
