(kinda long) need help - Max capacity at hall vs # invited

Ok originally we were going to invite like 180-190 - hoping for 150 because that's our guarantee right ? our room can hold 180/190 max but then they could open up the extra wing and that could hold up to 240/250 -----
so now all of a sudden there were 280 people on my list - which im cutting it down to about 260 -
and im hoping for like 60 no's -
but here is my dilemna - if i have 200 people in my original room 'Saturnia' I feel like its going to be crowded - the dance floor and all of that - & I feel like that extra wing is like for the extra B list guests (i know im probably nutz) SOOOOO I spoke to my father & he's like well why won't you call your hall and see if they have another room available - im like dad they prob wont bc i know theres another wedding there already ---
so i call and it turns out that they have another room max is 270 and min is 220 - but i told them that i cant guarantee 220 at this point so then she spoke with the General Mgr and said they wont change my minimum - that it will be 150 ----
so we're going for our menu selection next wed, & i told her 'we'll look at the other room because here is my other problem......
What if only like 180 come and then the 2nd room will look too big and empty as compared to if it was in the first room ---- i know this might sound confusing & such a petty problem but I need some advice.
Thanks Ladies!

no i obviously see that i should pick the second larger room - but the thing is if i change it now - which they said i have to do it now- & then if i only get like 180 ppl & they boook my orignal smaller room then ill be stuck in the larger room

get it?

thats a tough one... can you ask what the table layout options would be for the larger room if you went with it. You have to picture the room with centerpieces and a band or dj set up, your dais... etc etc... it fills up quicker than you think.

You could also put a few less people at each table, making more tables (which unfortunately will make you need to pay for more centerpieces)... but the room will look fuller with more tables.

HOpe that helps.

This is a tough situation...I'm having the same problem and going crazy over it. I think my original room may be too small, but the larger room may be too big!!

Can't give any advice, I'm also confused

well my rsvp date is 3/15
and my parents thought process is this:
keep the room you have now and think about this..... who in 2 months is going to book the other hall? the chances of them booking that room are very slim, soooo they're telling me to just wing it and wait....
My biggest concern is people complaining that its tooo tight you know?

see if you can wait a bit longer till you start getting your RSVP's in.. atleast that point you'll have a better idea.. hth

If you can fit up to 240/250 people with the extra wing open I would leave it and stay in your original room. The only reason I would move to the other room is if

(a) I thought I would have more people that 250 or
(b) I fell in love with the other room.

Otherwise, leave it because you may kick yourself for it later. HTHs!

i actually understand what you mean. you're afraid to get the bigger room b/c if too many people don't show up then the room will seem empty. but i personally would go with the bigger room only b/c you can't count on people not attending and a room thats too crowded would stink. i think the bigger room is the better option. i think the hall is great for letting you keep your minimum

good idea - i kinda thought that the smaller room with the band and my big tall centerpieces will look tight to begin with

hmmm....
this is why i love this site, it gives me more to think about and more confused!!
