(kinda long) need help - Max capacity at hall vs # invited
Original post by gabbie83
Ok originally we were going to invite like 180-190 - hoping for 150 because that's our guarantee right ? our room can hold 180/190 max but then they could open up the extra wing and that could hold up to 240/250 ----- so now all of a sudden there were 280 people on my list - which im cutting it down to about 260 - and im hoping for like 60 no's - but here is my dilemna - if i have 200 people in my original room 'Saturnia' I feel like its going to be crowded - the dance floor and all of that - & I feel like that extra wing is like for the extra B list guests (i know im probably nutz) SOOOOO I spoke to my father & he's like well why won't you call your hall and see if they have another room available - im like dad they prob wont bc i know theres another wedding there already --- so i call and it turns out that they have another room max is 270 and min is 220 - but i told them that i cant guarantee 220 at this point so then she spoke with the General Mgr and said they wont change my minimum - that it will be 150 ---- so we're going for our menu selection next wed, & i told her 'we'll look at the other room because here is my other problem...... What if only like 180 come and then the 2nd room will look too big and empty as compared to if it was in the first room ---- i know this might sound confusing & such a petty problem but I need some advice. Thanks Ladies!

i actually understand what you mean. you're afraid to get the bigger room b/c if too many people don't show up then the room will seem empty. but i personally would go with the bigger room only b/c you can't count on people not attending and a room thats too crowded would stink. i think the bigger room is the better option. i think the hall is great for letting you keep your minimum
I think this should be your new avatar!
you are so wise............
you're too funny

thats a tough one... can you ask what the table layout options would be for the larger room if you went with it. You have to picture the room with centerpieces and a band or dj set up, your dais... etc etc... it fills up quicker than you think.
You could also put a few less people at each table, making more tables (which unfortunately will make you need to pay for more centerpieces)... but the room will look fuller with more tables.
HOpe that helps.
good idea - i kinda thought that the smaller room with the band and my big tall centerpieces will look tight to begin with
hmmm.... this is why i love this site, it gives me more to think about and more confused!!
are you going to have kids at the wedding? (I don't mean to open up a can of worms!) but if you are... you could set up a kids table as well with some crafts..

Do you really think you'll get 80 nos?
well i got 4 no's already :)
I think you should go with the bigger room. You're inviting at least 260 and if you even get 60 nos, you're still going to be over your max in the original room

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah the hall is great for doing that but im thinking and what if they're only doing that bc they have someone for my smaller room for like a christening or anniversary ---- you know what i mean?
yeah that's what i was thinking - honestly i would take them up on the offer before they change their minds!

I'd go with the bigger one.
Worst case, can't you just sit like 8 people at 10 person tables to fill up the space? Not to mention, your guests will appreciate the extra room at the table.

If you can fit up to 240/250 people with the extra wing open I would leave it and stay in your original room. The only reason I would move to the other room is if
(a) I thought I would have more people that 250 or (b) I fell in love with the other room.
Otherwise, leave it because you may kick yourself for it later. HTHs!
to be quite honest i think i loved the other room better but we thougt that we wont have 220 people we're going to check it out next wed so i will keep you ladies posted
so deep down im kinda excited
Oh so then go for it! If you love the other room better I owuldn't worry about the rest. I've been to weddings where the room is huge and not that many people were in it. They'll just space your tables wider apart, giving everyone more room to walk around and be comfortable!

dont forget that the maximum # they give you at any hall is too high, thats the number if they seat alot of ppl at a table and put tables close together...always go by less than the max number for a comfortable fit

Take the larger room --they can arrange the tables differently and put them a bit farther apart to fill it out if need be
we only have 150-160 in a room that holds up to 400
400 is JAMM PACKED- like Denise said

I would definitely book the bigger room... Better to be safe & have room than to be squished. I went to a wedding where there was 160 people in a room for 220 max and it was perfect! Lots of room to move around but it was nice & spacious and not crowded, which I think most people prefer....
