Kinda long...looks like we have to change our song!!!!

So FH and I had this wedding in Oswego, NY this weekend. FH's Best Man was there. His best man is getting married in a few months. Well it just so happened that the song FH and I want to use came on. I was so excited I yelled out 'That's Our Song'. FH's best man and his fiance looked at us and were like,' no thats our song.' OH well I guess we are changing, their wedding is really a lot sooner than ours. I think I am ok with it, it just stinks b/c it is one of the only things that FH and I had done already. If it was me I would have known if my MOH was using my song.....oh boys!!!

I feel your pain. At my uncle's wedding last week in Jamaica, his now wife used the song I was going to use for the father/daughter dance. If she was just a friend i'd still go for it but my ENTIRE family was there and they're 85 percent of our guest list. Not to mention a big 'AWWW' was made when the song came on,....they're definitely gonna think I have no imagination if I don't change!

IMO I think it's rude that she said 'NO that's OUR song' ya know (or maybe I'm saying in my head worse than it came out of her mouth)...but technically it's not 'their' song if you want to use it then I say use it

I totally agree. That would not stop me from using the song at all. Plus you said it first that it was your song so you beat them to it...lol

i agree! Michelle, i think if you want to use the song then you should use it! esp. since they know it's not like you are 'copying' them. you can't help the fact that you both have the same song. plus, how many people who go to their wedding will be at yours besides them anyway? if it was me....i wouldnt be offended if you used the same song. esp. if you had already planned it all out. If the song is meaningful to the both of you then i dont see why you shouldnt use it.

That's ridiculous. Why can't you both use that as your song? It's hard enough picking a song and no one owns it.

of course you can use the same song! that is silly! it means something to you guys and there is no reason to change it to a song that doesnt mean anything just to be different

90% of people don't remember that kidn of stuff anyway

I found out after choosing my song that it was FILs song when they got married over 25 years ago - i think it is good luck!

Well if it were a random guest, I wouldn't care but it is FH's best friend and his Best Man. I was not insulted with the way that they reacted. It wwas more shock and funny at the time. The funnies thing about it was the fact that the guys didn't even realize it.

I agree 100%, im glad im not the only one who felt like this...first off its not THEIR song, they dont own the copyrights as far as i know. Yeah they are getting married before you but how do they know you didn't pick it before them, i mean for all you know they could've picked it the week before. And to turn to you and say 'NO' is very rude, i would've turned around and said really do you own this song.

I also say use it if you really want

i think its childish to think that you cant use the song too, the only owners of a song are the writers...lol you know how many people out there have that carpenters song 'we've only just begun????' lol oh just go for it, you relate to it and thats whats important!
