kinda rude question

does anyone feel bad for people getting married after them (that have some of the same guests) because you know your wedding was nicer than theirs will be, and that their guests will be comparing them?

Re: kinda rude question

it is kind of a rude question- don't take this the wrong way but the people throwing the party (aka bride and groom) always thinks their party is amazing- when others may think it is a total disaster. I went to a wedding after mine at a place where several brides on here got/are getting married and i thought it was a complete dump and disaster-she thought it was amazing...

ITA no matter when the wedding is the bride and groom ALWAYS think their wedding is the best ...

the reversal psychology of that is, i'd rather be after so i can make my wedding better than all of the others and theirs will be a distant memory

Oh, the things we tell ourselves.....

Re: kinda rude question

I got engaged in January 2009 (a half hour after the ball dropped). We booked our date for September 5, 2010. THEN my best friend got engaged March 2010 and asked if she mind if she got married June 2010. We told her to go for it since they REALLY wanted a June wedding. THEN my other best friend got engaged May 2010 and got married April 2010 (she didn't asked, just booked it, part of me cared - if you knew her you would to, and part of me didn't). At the June wedding the April bride spent the ENTIRE time comparing the two weddings and it was COMPLETELY annoying! Compare all you want but not during the ceremony when I'm trying to hear the vows! Now I'm self concious she's going to do this at mine.

Side Note - she is SO not my best friend anymore (still a bridesmaid though because I'm too nice) but I want to hit her with my car!

Re: kinda rude question

I have a friend who is getting married a year after me, but we talk about wedding planning. Her parents aren't chipping in at all and I'm not sure how much the grooms family is helping. Her and the groom are young and also don't make a lot of money. My FH and I are very lucky, both of our parents are contributing, and we're able to pay for a nice venue, the dress of my dreams, etc.
I've already told her about my dress shopping experience with Kleinfelds and I felt sort of bad the other day when she was talking about trying on a white prom dress to possibly pass it off as a wedding dress. She said 'I'm sure it was nothing like the Kleinfelds experience'.
That being said, I honestly think her wedding will be wonderful regardless of their budget. They're the mushiest couple ever, and it's clear they have a genuine love. Sometimes the best weddings aren't the most expensive ones. I'm going to be very happy for her and happy to be there on her day.

I didn't really ever think of this. I just always thought that everyone has their own tastes, budgets, etc so what one person thinks is an amazing time, another person might only think is so-so. Everyone always thinks their affair is the best, that is only natural, I guess. Like Katie said, some people think certain RHs are amazing, and get married at them all the time, and other people would disagree!

OH, and I should add, my sister is getting married in December!! I never worried mine would outshine hers, or hers would outdo mine. I think they will both be gorgeous and completely different, different venues, times of year, etc, but both will be totally unique and beautiful!

I don't really think this way....all weddings are fun and memorable for their own reasons. Not to sound like I'm on a moral high horse or anything, but I do think that comparing weddings to see which one tops the other is a bit childish...didn't anyone see Bride Wars and how that turned out?

I just love going to weddings big or small!

I do know my wedding was the sh!t though because people are still talking about it lol

Re: kinda rude question

I agree with personal taste choices. Some people might not like that I'm choosing the ramones and smashing pumpkins as entrance music, our cocktail hour music, or ceremony music, but I think these are personal choices. I'm planning on making sure the dancing music includes older folks music as I want everyone to have a good time, and that none of my personal choices are what I would consider obnoxious timing like while people are eating dinner. But I'm sure my grandma will make a face when we are introduced to a rock out song. Whatevs, you can't please everyone

Yeah yeah yeah, I know the nice thing to say is how you would never compare your wedding to anyone else's, but let's be real. We all do it in our heads (some of us out loud... which I only do with my momma! ). And this doesn't have to be in a malicious way... it's just like 'Oh, they decided to go this way while we went that way! Interesting!'

I agree that we all do it. no matter what we always compare to others. and not only weddings.
but when I do it I dont do it like u Jill, I am just being vicious. to be perfectly honest I do it to make myself feel better - so what? if u dont spread that vileness around and just keep it between u, DH and mommy who does it really hurt?

I think my wedding was beyond amazing, and no one else's come close
BUT at the same time I went to Janis's wedding and that what really the best wedding I have ever been to (holler!)
so just b/c ur being rude in private doesnt mean u completely 100% think that (if that makes sense )

Re: kinda rude question

haha I agree. Honestly, more like I might be thinking I didn't like someone's choice of dresses, flowers, music, whatever, but the feeling of being there is warm so it's still awesome.

Everyone thinks that their wedding is the best because its yours...that's not vicious, that's just being proud and really happy about being able to share a beautiful moment with others.
