i am so sorry this is happening to you. i think you should sit her down & talk to her about it. it will be hard on people who will be invited to both weddings if she does move the date up.

Sorry Must be stressful.

I worry about my sister doing something similar with her boyfriend of 4 years. He's much more financially better off then me & my FH..I fear their going to get engaged sometime this year and then have their wedding before mine or the same year as me.

I'm the youngest of 3, and I know my sisters were always angry/upset when I did something before them. Maybe she just feels that b/c she's older she should get married first??

I know that's not the right way to think, but its probably hard on her that her younger sister is planning a nice wedding, has a beautiful ring, etc. and she had to wait 8 years!!

Maybe sit and talk with her about it. Are you close? Maybe you can have a 'joint' engagement party?

i think the best way is to talk to her :( she just might be too excited about getting a ring getting engaged!!! so it has finally hit her and hasn't realized what she's doing ...talk to her!

First of all

I'm so sorry sweetie. Sounds like your sister is acting like a spoiled brat that needs to constantly be in the spot light. It's hard to talk to people like that. They don't see anything wrong with their behavior.

First I would speak with your parents. See if they know when she is planning the wedding for. It *****, but really the only thing you can do is grin and bear it and know that your wedding is no less important than hers. Don't turn it into a contest, don't stoop to her level.

Or, it could be that this is not the case. That she is still planning a later wedding and because it is so far off she wanted to celebrate now since she has about 4 years to wait for her big day. It really ***** you didn't have an e-party if you wanted one. Maybe you can think of a special way of marking your engagement whether it be a dinner out with friends and family or having a little something at a parent's home.

Don't let this get you down. YOUR DAY IS STILL IMPORTANT!

Awww Teri! Hugs!!!

I'm sorry your sister is acting the way she is. It sounds as she is the kind of person that constantly craves attention. I think you should sit down with her and have a talk about how it wouldn't be a good idea if she were to push up your wedding near yours, because i agree w/ what someone else said that it might be a lot to take for some in your family if they have 2 weddings in a row!

If you can, i would try to throw together something like Amanda mentioned, a small dinner w/ family and close friends to acknowledge and celebrate your engagement

Teri I am sooo sorry you are feeling like this...It is a really s*cky situation.
If your sister is starting to get a bit crazy about all of this and if she is telling everyone she has to be first, dont worry about it bc she is going to look like the crazy one!!! People will realize how she is acting and you will look like the better person for it.
I agree with what Amanda said about maybe trying to do something special for your engagement...why not a small dinner party in honor of your relationship, not an engagement party but just a small gathering to get both sides of the family acquainted...

Aww, Teri. I'm so sorry!

The others are wise. I would talk to her or your parents and feel her out. She probably feels like she got engaged and isn't getting any attention... and you are. She's just jealous. I remember it being difficult watching my friends get engaged/get married/have kids when I wanted that so badly.... it does sting a little.

Your wedding will be important and spectacular because it's YOUR wedding. You and FH planned it and worked on it. You're buying a house and starting a family with FH and it's going to be all about the two of you. She can't take away from that even if she has her wedding on the same day as you, in the same place, with the same dress, etc.

Re: Kinda Upset-Kinda long

awww teri, i'm sorry. this could potentially be a very sticky situation down the line as the both of you plan out your weddings, so you may want to talk to her about some of your concerns very neutrally so that she doesn't get too defensive. Looking at this situation from outside the box, I think you have nothing to worry about though. You have a lot of wonderful things happening to you right now that no one can take away from you no matter how hard they try to make their own situations better. Just keep focusing on the wonderful things that you're doing and wonderful things will continue to happen to you. I know it's hard to deal with but hang in there, we're here for you.

p.s. does she know about this website?
