Kitchen paint color help!

We are in contract on our new house in PJS - need decorating ideas on the kitchen (see additional pictures). Floor is new and a nice beige-ish grayish design. Appliances are white and countertop is fairly new and is that teal green like color. Need suggestions and I am not afraid to be brave with color! Now if I only had an extra $30K to redo the full kitchen! HELP!

Re: Kitchen paint color help!

WOW Congrats... we were actually going to see that house a few weeks ago and the Re agent showed us a different home by mistake.

Many congrats I wish you the best... For the Kitchen Start off with painting everything (cabinets) WHITE !!! TRUST ME ...it will look bigger and will help you to think of a color scheme... ALSO remove all the hardware (handles) and spraypaint them all silver THE overall CHANGE IS INCREDABLE

May i ask you what you paid for the house ?? I d like to know how much if any the owners came down....You can FM me if you want ....

Well, after 135 houses, 7 lost in bidding and one lost in inspection, we were at our point and paid.....asking - 329. They had three other bids in on the same day (verified, not RE bsing). It is small, but in great shape. Only big thing that needs to be redone is kitchen cabinets. Everything else is new. They bought it 2.5 years ago as handyman's special (for 180....choke). Thanks for the ideas! I was gonna start with paint and hardware, just after seeing so many Trading Spaces episodes I feel like I am supposed to paint everything bo;d, radical colors. Yeah....paige davis this.......

Congratulations
Your house is Great!

I agree with the White cabinet suggestion. You may want to replace a door or two with glass to give a quick update. It will be much easier to work on a color scheme starting with a more neutural base.

I also agree with painting the cabinets white. I also love the way wainscotting looks in a kitchen. You could do that half or a third of the way up the wall and then paint the rest of the wall a color darker than the countertop, or a coordinating color.

Congratulations! Best wishes in making your new house a home

I took a peek at the house using your link. Funny, I lived down the block for a year (rented when I was an undergrad at Stony Brook). I loved the neighborhood!

Re: Kitchen paint color help!

I like the living room color....but I think the Foyer needs to be repainted a brighter color. To me the house is too dark.

In the kitchen I would paint the walls beige or light green, or maybe light blue.

What color is the floor?

As for the cabinets I would paint the doors and frames white, replace the hardware, or paint them silver like someone said above.

The cabinet door next to the window over the dishwasher, I would replace with a glass door.

Maybe I would replace the countertops with a color that goes with the walls, and also the backsplash.

I saw something cool on one of those design programs, where they used Kitchen Tile to make an original countertop. The end result was really cool, and inexpensive....well cheaper than replacing countertops.

Maybe if you get a smaller square or rectangle kitchen table, the kitchen would look bigger. That table is just too big for the room.

I also like the idea of doing the bottom of the wall in Waynes coating.

Check out Lowes website , tlc.com, and hgtv.com for more ideas.

I would also replace the kitchen light with something more updated.....and maybe paint the blades in the ceiling fan...I think they are wood color right? If they are white, then i would leave them alone.

Re: Kitchen paint color help!

House is just north of 347 about 500 ft. east of Old Town Road (off Broadway).

I was thinking white cabinets with the silver/brused silver hardware. Like the glass cabinet idea. Tough part is that teal colored countertop. Don't have cash to do now so will look into tile idea. Friend at work though a sharp blue like a cadet blue might really pop against the coutertop. That matched with white cabinets and some wainescoating and I got me a kitchen! Thanks ladies!

Oh - the table! Yeah, the family living there has 6 kids!!! She needed a big table. Family so big she turned the dining room into a bedroom (redish colored bedroom).

Believe it or not, house is actually pretty bright. The pictures don't give justice to colors she has - heck the LR looks mauve when it is warm beige that matches my couches perfectly! Hallways up and down are a light blue that actually looks good. Den is a gorgeous sage with a wash finish. She didn't do pics of downstairs bath but OMG - it is SOOOOOOO GORGEOUS!

Only rooms I am going to do are kitchen, upstairs bath, one kid's bedroom and MBR. Me, hubby and my dad need to get our paint brushes ready!
