Anyone have any suggestions of places to find kitchen tables. I really want a wood table with the ceramic tile top. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: Kitchen Table - Suggestions
There are a slew of dinette stores on Old Country Road in Westbury.
I got one like that years and years ago from Gothic Cabinet.

I used to sell furniture...
those ceramic top tables are cool but let me give you the 411-
If the ceramic tile breaks it's a pain to replace... if you have a kid- or kids over, and they are playing on the table, banging their toys around they could possibly break a tile.
After a few years the grout gets a little funky.
My advise to anyone buying a kitchen table is this- buy a hard wood like oak and don't get a laquer, get oil.
Oil is a pain for the first year- you have to oil the table top every month for six months and then I think every six months thereafter.
But once the wood is treated you don't need to use hotplates, you can spill nail polish remover on it- anything- and no damage will be done..
I'm surprise b/c a lot of people don't know about this- but it's good.

I have to chime in here and agree 100% with Sassy. We bought a tile top table and we regret it very much. To add to what was already said...you can't write on it and it's difficult to clean because dirt and dust collect between the tiles.
Fortunately our table was inexpensive and not meant to last a long time but if you want to put good money into a nice table give it a lot of thought. Good luck.

Re: Kitchen Table - Suggestions
Yes- laquer is when you have a finish on your table- where it's shiny.
When you have an oil finish- you are leaving the wood as is (that doesn't mean it isn't stained a color- it still can be stained, it just won't have that thick glass-like coating)...
then you oil the table with special furniture oil you can get from the place you buy your table (my father sells it @ his store for example).
Once your table is fully treated, it is virtually indestructable.
Whereas, laquered tables can get messed up- you ever put a hot plate down or a wet bowl on your table and you get that white ring? that's from the laquer... you have to be very careful w. your kitchen table or else it gets those weird marks on it.
Sassyz - thanks so much for the advise. I guess I will forget the tile table. I never thought about the breakage of the tiles or the grout, but it makes perfect sense, thanks for pointing me in the right direction
