omg, they're adorable. FH and I have been thinking about getting a friend for our cat. She's about 2 1/2. She's very sweet, but somewhat bizarre and since she's our only baby she's completely spoiled. My question is, since you have 3, do you think our cat would have an issue adjusting? As much as we'd love to get her some company (I think it might make her less insane sometimes) I don't want to cause her any undue stress. From your experience, what do you think?

I had my Mima for about 8 months and she was the only cat. Totally spoiled, and she also has asthma so I totally baby this cat. I got Lily and Claudette when they were only 3 weeks old, and at first Mima wanted NO part of them. She'd either swat them in the head, or pretend they werent even around. I kept them seperate for about 2-3 weeks. The kittens stayed in the bathroom and Mima got the run of the place. I was so nervous, but I decided to let them together. In about 3 hours they were totally adjusted and they've been together every since. In fact, I just took the kittens on Tues to be spayed, and Mima cried all day until they came home the next day b/c she was lonely. Originally when I was concerned about Mima not being nice to the kittens I spoke with my vet about it, and he told me that either the cats will be 'friends' or they will just live independantly of eachother and not acknowlege eachother's existance, but generally house cats don't all-out fight.

Thats good to know cause I want more cats, Ive just been afraid!

Do any of you know if this will work with cats adjusting to dogs too?

It doesn't create stress for them if they live independently? Or are they fine with it? That's my concern most of all. I know cats are very susceptible to physical manifestations of stress....

My cat was ok with it, and I dont like to get her stressed or upset b/c she's liable to have an asthma attack.

That's hysterical. FFIL's huge english bulldog was terrified of their cat too. It always amazed me.

The dog. So basically she was scared of a 4 pound kitten. I feel so safe w/her guarding the house!!

Re: Kittens for adoption!

My parents have cats and dogs together and they generally get along great. Ever since my mom gave one cat a bath (a long time ago!) she has been a little scared of the dog, but they used to sleep together and snuggle.

We have 2 kittens and plan to get a small dog one day...
