Kleinfeld Hotel Blocks

Has anyone used this service to get the lowest rates for hotel room blocks? They say it's free and a representative does all the leg work for you but I feel like there has to be some sort of catch in the end.

I used them. It's all free and they are very responsive. Easiest part of my planning.

I used them and they have been helpful. For the hotel I chose I was quoted the same rate when I contacted them myself and when I used Kleinfeld. As far as I could tell from the contract it looks like they do get a percentage from the hotel.

I didn't love them. I think it's also b/c I'm a little of a control freak. If you don't have a lot of out of town guests and you're just booking a hotel just to have one, it's fine. I'm not from NY, so all of my family and a lot of friends will need hotels. Also, we're using hotels in Rockville Centre, which tend to be a little smaller (some of the hotels out east are huge and you can book up a ton of rooms). I asked for Kleinfeld Room blocks for 3 hotels that I was looking at-- and that I ended up booking. They only gave me two of the three and gave me some other hotels also-- one that was entirely out of my price range and one that was really disgusting/Motel 6 looking. I had always thought I'd end up booking myself, but I thought I'd just see what Kleinfeld could do.

I went and booked on my own, since I knew which 3 hotels I wanted. I ended up getting a MUCH better deal on one of them (Kleinfeld gave me $159 for a regular room/$209 for a suite. The hotel themselves gave me $149 for both regular and suites) and the other hotel gave me the same deal as Kleinfeld. I ended up doing the third hotel on my own which Kleinfeld didn't give me a rate for.

The only thing I really didn't like about Kleinfeld is when I declined their service because I found better deals myself, they bugged me to ask where I booked. They sent me like 3 emails, it was pretty annoying.

I have to say - I didn't love them either. It took them a few extra days to get back to me, which was okay but then when I got the quotes - the ones I got MYSELF were up to $75 a night cheaper. I'm sure this is not the case with everyone but I just didn't see the benefit.

I mean, what I ended up thinking was, they have to get paid too - so I'm sure they're not giving you the ABSOLUTE best deal.

What works for some doesn't work for all...just my experience. Going directly to the hotel has been a DREAM! The communication is AMAZING - so amazing that I wish my hotel contact was my wedding planner! LOL
