So I went to Kleinfelds and love a dress that is only carried by Kleinfelds...
Is it true that alterations are $600 flat fee no matter what?
Any tips on getting a discount so that the dress with the alterations doesnt blow my budget?
I would take it somewhere else to get it altered but it is lace and i might benefit from the $600 cap and i dont have someone else i trust with a complicated dress.
Any other experiences good/bad with Kleinfelds appreciated - FM me!

Re: Kleinfelds questions
Is it a Pnina dress??? She's exclusive to Kleinfeld...mine is a Pnina
Yes, it's true about the flat flee. I was told you can take it elsewhere but then it is not guaranteed by Kleinfeld....I am just having Kleinfeld do mine.
As far as a discount, they will work with you a little bit...I got my dress during a trunk show so saved a little that way...but they also took a percentage off of my veil b/c Joan hit it off with my mom lol.....it doesn't hurt to try!

Re: Kleinfelds questions
in my opinion ...(just watched another episode the other day and thought this again) unless you are getting a pnina dress, because i have to say those are actually unique...you really can find the same exact style in probably the same exact matieral for about 4k less! for example i was watching and i saw this girl get a dres that cost 7,200 and i swear on my life i've seen about 20 dresses just like that in salons that were in my opinion A LOT NICER...for 2-3k...so just be aware, you may like that high class atmosphere of kleinfields, which i thought i did too..but in the end i'd rather save 5k ...?

Re: Kleinfelds questions
i went to kleinfelds today and sadly i didn't say yes to the dress but the salesperson i worked with offered me a recommendation for a seamstress . their in-house seamstress charges around $500 (your $600 quote could be right) but the lady she was going to recommend would be around $250. the dress i was looking at was lace too. unfortunately i didn't get the seamstress's name bc i didn't get the dress, but ask your salesperson if they have recommendations.

Re: Kleinfelds questions
i got my dress at kleinfeld's, but it was a sample, so they won't do alterations (mine was also kleinfeld-exclusive...not pnina). they gave us a list of seamstresses that they recommend. i would have to get the list from my mom, but if you're interested, fm me and i will call her and get the info.

Re: Kleinfelds questions
Personally I WOULD NOT take it elsewhere for alterations. I LOVED Kleinfeld's alterations department. For a sure great tailor, ask for Maria.
They are $595... which is high. BUT remember it does include bustle, whereas other places might not include that in the price they give you... so be careful there. Also, I felt secure knowing that Kleinfelds was doing my alterations... I also had an all lace dress... and being that I fully trusted this company i had piece of mind knowing they were doing my alterations... and for that the 600 is WELL worth it!!
I have a tailor horror story from one of my BM's and the THOUGHT of that even being a possibility for me is just tooo much to handle. I'd rather pay a tiny bit extra and KNOW that my dress will be done properly.
Not to say that all tailors will ruin your dress.... because I'm sure there are fab ones out there that do amazing work... I just wasn't willing to take the chance.

In one sense I do see what you are saying... BUT... This is certainly not true of my dress. I didn't have a pnina.... but my dress was VERY hard to find. And of the places that could carry it, they had to order it at my expense just to try it on to see if I wanted it. Also, the savings wasn't anything special. Maybe a few hundred? BUT the store was also in NJ and commuting back and forth with gas and tolls and stuff really ate up the small savings.
Not all their dresses are that expensive. They DO have dressing in the 2 to 3 k range! TRUST ME!!!

I agree with you, I love Maria and she is an amazing seamstress. However, the list of steamstresses that can do your alternations are the same steamstresses you use at Kleinfelds. You just have to go to their homes. I know this because Maria is on there and the location is staten island. My girlfriend went to Maria's home. But yes, there is a flat fee for alterations. My decision to get the alterations there was 1. its was eaiser and 2. Given how much I spent for the overall wedding, $595.00 didnt seem that much to me. But to each his own!

Re: Kleinfelds questions
yes! what I Love Paolo said was exactly what the salesperson told me. the seamstress was the same in house person they use but i could go to her home (which may have been in manhattan bc she asked if i lived in manhattan) and i'd save money that way.
Either way - Kleinfelds won't screw you. I've heard nothing but great things about working with them. i only wish i found my dress last night - but i'm going to make another appointment there,

Re: Kleinfelds questions
Thanks all for posting. all very helpful!
The dress is augusta jones (any info on that?), defintely 2-3k. Was sure i'd go to kleinfelds and be able to find the dress elsewhere if it was easier (and cheaper) .. but looks like i just may have to be a kleinfelds bride!

Inez is really great, she did my sis-in-law's dress which was a sample and it looked brand new and gorgeous.

Re: Kleinfelds questions
I am thinking of going to the sample sale tomorrow, but not excited at the thought of standing in line in the cold when i know the dress that might be the one is not included in the sale! (but i cant resist the potential of a deal)
