On a rating from 1-5 (5 being the worst) how would you rate Kleinfield's ability to meet the needs of 'larger' sized women.
My friend is usually 12/14/16 in street clothes, and trying on dresses has been a hassle for her.
Should we waste our time in Kleinfeld's?
I didn't know how to answer b/c my dress comes in three pieces, and I squeezed into the samples. She's worried that NOTHING will fit, and the people there will be RUDE (which I didn't think they were)

Wow Christine, now a size 12 is considered a 'larger' sized woman.
Marilyn Monroe was a size 14, remember that folks

i think she ment because her 'street clothes size' is a 12/14/16 that in wedding gowns she will probably be like an 18/20. because they run sooooo small

It is larger according to bridal salons....you'll have to buy a size 16 or 18 and THEY CHARGE EXTRA!
Baby...I'm a size 18....I never thought that when I went to try on dresses that I would have to buy a size 22 or 24!

Re: Kleinfield: 'Larger' Sized Women
At the time I tried on dresses there, I was a 12, and they ordered me a 12. The sample was a 10 and I squeezed into it. The dress I ordered was pretty true to size.
I saw a lot of tiny girls there with clips all over their dresses, so I think they might have sample sizes 10 and 12.
Hope that helps.

Re: Kleinfield: 'Larger' Sized Women
I live in NJ and bought my dress here (obviously!) First I have to say, have any of you ladies ever thought of coming to Jersey for your dresses? Perhaps the ladies living closer to NYC it wouldn't be that much of a hassle. I say that, because there's no sales tax here on clothes and that includes wedding dresses! I am getting my dress from a very small bridal boutique in Northern Jersey, they are amazing there, especially the owner. I'm a larger bride and normally wear a 14 in street clothes, and I had no trouble trying on dresses. Some of the dresses, actually had this corset type contraption sewn into the dress (it's kinda hard to explain), but there were a variety of sizes printed on this thing, all the way up to a 20! it allows the larger sized bride to be able to actually try on dresses, rather than hang the dress around her neck. I thought it was an ingenious thing!

RK has a really large selection of plus-sized dresses. I ordered mine there and strangely, it was true to size for me.

Re: Kleinfield: 'Larger' Sized Women
Most of the time the most expensive designers (Reem Acra, Vera Wang, Badgley Mischka, St. Pucchi) make their dresses smaller so they can charge you extra on bigger sizes. Trust me!!! I am a size 4/6 and needed to order size 12 in Reem Acra and pay extra for my 34D cup size($$$$)!! Kleinfeld carries many designers that really don't accommodate bigger woman....their sample sizes are size 10 (which is really 6-8 in street size)

i didn't go to kleinfeld but...i'm a 12 in street clothes and i was able to fit into most samples (just couldn't close some). and my dress is a 12! so your friend might not do as badly as she thinks.
and if she's worried about that particular store, why doesn't she just go somewhere else that may be able to help her more?

Re: Kleinfield: 'Larger' Sized Women
I didn't go to Kleinfelds either but I was at the time a 12/14 & I ended up with a size 16 dress. I was able to try on most, but not all samples. I went to RK Bridal first & the smallest sample I saw was a 10 & that was too small to get my boobs into.
The others were usually 12s & soemtiems 14's & I could but them on & the sales people would put them clip them to my bra so I could see how they would look, since I couldn't zip them.
I ended up getting my dress at the BRidal Garden in Bethpage, which is a great smaller store.
The only place anyone was rude was this tiny snobby store in Westchester, which apparently I was too fat & too poor for.

Re: Kleinfield: 'Larger' Sized Women
the samples may be tight, but she should go, she's not really that much larger IMO, so I'm not sure why you're worried.
