So my FH and I chose to book our venue for Sept. 6, 2010. It was much cheaper than any other time and we thought we really lucked out. It is actaully labor day, and I didn't think much of it. Now that we are telling people, they are all saying 'Labor day? I have to work the next day! Thats so inconvienient!' Are we wrong to have booked it? I feel aweful, but it was the only day we could really afford!!

Re: Labor Day wedding
Nah, you'll do save the dates and people will get used to that being your wedding day. We went to a labor day Sunday wedding a few years ago and it was lovely! Great time of year.
Congratulations on your engagement & choosing a wedding date!!!

No matter what date you choose, someone isn't going to be happy. You can't plan your wedding around everyone else...it's your wedding after all!! Recently there was a post on here about a bride who was upset that a guest said something to her about her Halloween wedding. One of my friends had her wedding on Father's Day. I went to a wedding on Labor Day and had a great time!! Don't worry about it...the people that want to be there will be there and you won't even be thinking about the ones who aren't on your day!!! Just send out STDs as soon as you can and happy planning

Re: Labor Day wedding
we were married on the Sunday of labor day weekend 2 years ago. One thing the weather was gorgeous and hopefully it will be for you too.
we picked that weekend and sunday so it seemed like a sat wedding since people were off on monday. you should just think of it like a sunday wedding since people are off that day and tell them that. I agree you will always have someone that complains but just ignore and enjoy.

Re: Labor Day wedding
I am getting married on a Sunday and so far no one but FMIL has complained about the day of the week. We sent out STDs a year in advance. The people who want to be there will be there regardless of the day of the week.

Re: Labor Day wedding
My sister is getting married on labor day and people have complained about it but she had to do what was best for her. She loved her hall so much that whatever she could do to have her wedding there she did. One thing you can consider maybe if you can end it at like 9 or 10 and just have the RH change the times. Instead of ending at 11 or 12. I wouldn't worry about it. It's your wedding. You have to do whats best for you.

Re: Labor Day wedding
listen you do what you have to, its the same thing as going to a sunday night wedding, if they dont like it they dont have to come, and they shouldnt give you crap about it thats a little rude and inconsiderate in my opinion

Re: Labor Day wedding
One thing FH and I had to learn quickly was that this is 'OUR' day & we were told an important piece of advice 'Those that want to be there for you....WILL be there' regardless of the date!! We are getting married on Memorial Day (the actual Monday. I had ALOT of reservations about the date, but like everyone has said...someone will ALWAYS have something to say. It was between Fridays and Sundays for us so when you think of getting married on a holiday Monday just look at it as a Sunday, people may have to go to work the next day, but if they love you...they will be there! Dont stress about people..Happy Planning and Congrats on booking your hall and getting a good deal!!

Too bad if its inconvienent for them...its your wedding. If they want to be there, they'll make it, work or not the next day.

I am having a Sunday night wedding and there is no holiday the next day so its the same situation as you. Don't plan your wedding around other people that's just not practical.

ITA! You will never please everyone, and it's really not nice to express that it is inconvenient to the bride! I have griped in the past about attending a Sunday night wedding, but I would never say it to the couple. If people want to come, they will, and you probably don't really want the people who won't anyway!

Re: Labor Day wedding
It would be the same as if you had it on a Sunday... people will always have something to say no matter when you have it. I could see how having it in the afternoon might be better than at night but people will get over it.

Uh yeah, ITA. I went to a wedding on a Monday before the 4th of July one year when it fell on a Tuesday. It was totally inconvenient, most people weren't off from work but we still went and I never would have said something to the bride.

Re: Labor Day wedding
I agree with other posts.. its the same as having it on a sunday. which in my opinion isnt ideal but very common now (Im having a sunday wedding myself =)) and besides.. this way your guests can still go away for the 'long weekend' and be back for your wedding AND if you have OOT guests they can have more time to spend on LI and/or travel here for your wedding.
My bro had his wedding on labor day monday 6 years ago almost and i still hear comments about how great it was.. its not about the day of the week but rather the spirit and the happinss shared by you and FH.. !

Re: Labor Day wedding
Don't worry about what others will think. I agree with what most brides to be have said on this board. You def can not plan your wedding around others b/c there will always be a date that will be inconvenient one way or another. Do what is best for you especially with the economy right now. Although it may be inconvenient for those who have to return to work, if they are close friends and family who love and care about you, they will be there on your big day to cheer you on. Enjoy your planning and have fun! Best wishes & Congrats!

Re: Labor Day wedding
I am having my Wedding on Labor Day Sep 7th, 2009 and I have gotten a few party poopers but I am saving a ton of money by doing that. We pay for a weekday even though its a holiday. MY wedding from start to finish including ceremony is from 5-11:30pm. If people want to leave early then its their loss (i'm having the vienesse hour yum). I am going to be sneaky and put on my menu surprise at 10:30 under the dessert section so people will stay . hahahahahahhaha. Don't worry about it. It would be the same if you had your wedding on a sunday.
