Labor Day wedding

Original post by Lonveair

So my FH and I chose to book our venue for Sept. 6, 2010. It was much cheaper than any other time and we thought we really lucked out. It is actaully labor day, and I didn't think much of it. Now that we are telling people, they are all saying 'Labor day? I have to work the next day! Thats so inconvienient!' Are we wrong to have booked it? I feel aweful, but it was the only day we could really afford!!

I also sent my save the dates in march so that people knew ahead of time in case they wanted to plan a trip. Also take into account that not everyone esp nurses are off on holidays so they need enough time to put in their time

people will complain no matter what, the bottom line is that you are marrying the love of your life and your family and friends that love you will be there no matter what!

I think there is nothing wrong with a labor day wedding! the important people will be there regardless what day it is! and besides i dont think that many people use that weekend to go away since the kiddies are usually already back in school!

Re: Labor Day wedding

Our wedding is Labor Day this year and while one of my friend's husbands complained, nobody else did. We sent out STDs about 6 months in advance so people knew to work their vacations around our wedding. Also, our wedding is 2-8pm so it doesn't end so late that it interferes with people having to work the next day. Out of towners are just taking the Tuesday off, I guess.

A Monday of Labor Day weekend wedding is no different than a Sunday wedding any other weekend of the year. Don't worry about it!

Re: Labor Day wedding

we got married on labor day weekend last year and we had the same concerns when we booked it -- but sending save-the-dates ahead of time really helped - we noted that it was holiday weekend and asked them to plan ahead - there were some people who couldn't make it but oh well ... we had a great turn out ...

i understand how u feel tho - felt the same way, but don't let it bother u too much - people that really matter and those who genuinely want to go to your wedding WILL make it happen ...

goodluck!

Re: Labor Day wedding

I was in a wedding party the Friday before Memorial Day and no one complained. It started at 3!

I am having mine on a Sunday early an people are complaining about the time (12-5:30). If I made it later, they'd complain too!

I look at it this way, people who don't go away have Labor Day BBQs. Do they complain about going to work the next day?
I think not...

My son and DIL had their wedding on Labor Day and everyone attended. Just tell your friends or who ever is giving you a hard time that it is the same as having a wedding on Sunday. People go to Sunday weddings all the time and they too have to get up for work the next day. To me there is no difference between a Labor day, Memorial Day or a Sunday wedding.
Just be sure to send out Save the Dates because some people do go away for the Labor Day weekend.
Good Luck.

If someone tells you that its an inconvience for them, they don't need to be invited! Who does that ?!?!?

And honestly, most ppl are off labor day so don't worry about it

Re: Labor Day wedding

I don't think it is a big deal at all. It is like a Sunday wedding. I mean what are people really doing on Labor Day that would make it more important than a wedding? And do the post that mentioned the husband complaining about the date. That sounds quite rude.

What a wonderful way to cap off the summer!

Im getting married on a Thursday...huge inconvenience for everyone I bet, but it's my checkbook and regardless I'm getting married that day no matter who is there

You don't need to defend choosing your date...it's YOUR day!

SAME FOR ME!! & I AGREE!!..if they aren't going to help pay for it then I suggest they shut their mouths

I wouldn't worry at all!! it's a wonderful time of year and it's the same as going to a wedding on a Sunday... just let them complain and they'll eventually get over it. congrats for booking your date!!!

No matter what date you choose, someone isn't going to be happy. You can't plan your wedding around everyone else...it's your wedding after all!! Recently there was a post on here about a bride who was upset that a guest said something to her about her Halloween wedding. One of my friends had her wedding on Father's Day. I went to a wedding on Labor Day and had a great time!! Don't worry about it...the people that want to be there will be there and you won't even be thinking about the ones who aren't on your day!!! Just send out STDs as soon as you can and happy planning

ITA! This is so true!
Someone will always be there to complain about the date/time/day of week/location, so just do what makes you happy!
