Lactose Intolerant???

Are there any other brides who are lactose intolerant out there? I just found out officially on Friday that I am.EMO21: I have had symptoms. They handed me a piece of paper and said, 'Change your diet.' I am 37, 105lbs, and Italian. For me not to each cheese is impossible. I bought a cookbook which is milk-free. Can you direct me to websites which may provide support? The day of my wedding I'll be popping pills galore! Thanks. You all are always so helpful.

personally, I think that if you keep with your diet for now until the wedding, than it would be okay to cheat..I'm not a dr. so I don't know how extreme your case is but..

My DH is lactose intolerant. I would think if you are as bad as him - you would have known already...so I would think you do not have to make extreme changes to your diet but I am only going on his experience...no medical background.

He avoids dairy foods but doesn't stay away from them. He finds when he eats them in smaller quantities he is ok. (He loves cheese!!!!) He hasn't really changed his diet and is ok. When he eats great quantities, he pays the price - stomach sick but for him it is worth him splurging on the foods he loves. He does take the pills (like on the day of our wedding) and they help but he feels they just delay the inevitable - in his terms.

Try lactaid. My fh tried lactaid, but it wasn't strong enough. Then he tried lactaid ultra and he can't believe how well it works. He finally gets to enjoy pizza and ice cream again!

My FH is lactose intolerant but he finds SOME (say 3/4's) of the time that the lactaid pills work great. He cuts down greatly on his dairy intake and makes sure to carry his pills and take them before any meal with dairy.

Both FI and I are lactose intolerant. We do pop pills, but if you use pills everyday, it will become expensive (plus I can't imagine popping so many pills is healthy). Also keep in mind that one pill may not do the trick - when I eat a slice of cheesecake, I need to take a minimum of 3 pills!

For the most part, I do avoid dairy. I used to love cheese as well (I would put it on everything!), but between the pill popping and the stomach cramps, I learned to stay away. There is Lactaid American cheese which doesn't taste too bad. I also use Lactaid milk and Lactaid cottage cheese.

Sorry you have to go through this!

Take the Lactaid. It's just an enzyme that helps you to digest the milk, not like a pill that you should be afraid of taking frequently. At least, that was my understanding of it. You can even buy them in little individually wrapped packages, so you can throw them in your purse. I've been doing it for years. No biggie! Sorry you are going through this, but it is very manageable.
