My family does NOT approve of my engagement and wedding, and have said they want no part of any of it and that neither does anyone in my family...they say they like FH and that they would love for him to be their son-in-law. Yet two seconds later they turn around and try to break up our relationship....they say they want to help plan my engagement party but they turn around and say they will not come to the engagment party or wedding. I understand that I am very young to be engaged (I will be 22 in 2 months) but does that give them the right to try to break up my relationship or the right to badger me with reasons why I cant be with him? I dont know how to get everything out in words, but what Im asking is how do I deal with this? I was so happy for the first 12 hours of my engagement and then I got to my parents and was miserable ever since...all I do is stress over this situation, is there anyway to remedy it? Can this possibly be fixed, a giant rift has been formed between my family, FH and myself... I just dont know what to do ladies, I am at a total loss...

I am soooo sorrry you are going through this ~ they are probably like this because you are on the younger side ~ but they have to realize a lot of people back in the day got married younger than you ~ I would just try to plan as much as you can and do what you can ~ I am sure your family will come around and get used to the situation! If they don't it will be there LOSS! Maybe sit with your parents and have a chat with them regarding this situation and how can it be fixed to make everyone happy! Good Luck & Congratulations!

I'm so sorry to hear that.. I got engaged 5 months ago and I am just turning 22 this month. At first my family did not approve as well. But they came around. Explain to them that you can handle yourself and its the decision you made after alot of thinking. Make them understand you know your responsiblities and how you think hes right for you. I am sure they will come around. maybe it was easy for my family to turn around since I am so independent(I've been paying for my own house and bills since high school) don't worry they will go to you wedding they are just probably saying that. I hope everything works out.

Sorry! Family can either be a blessing or a curse. I like you have a curse, lol anyhow, it sounds like there might be some stuff your leaving out, like what is the reasons they are giving you not to get married to him. What ever happens do what makes you happy but if they do have valid points maybe look past the idea of a wedding(which draws most of us in)and really make sure your going to be happy with your decision. Good Luck!

ohh, that's ruff.... i'd con my parents tellin them i wanted to go out to dinner with them.. then bring FH along without them knowing.. just so we could all talk... but then again i dont know your family...
Actually, I think YOU need to talk to your parents without your FH there. Have an open, honest, calm discussion about their true feelings without him there first. Then maybe all of you can sit down together (with FH) to air things out... but it seems like it would be more productive and more informative to sit down with them alone first.

Congratulations on your engagement.
I am so sorry that what should be a happy time for you is causing you so much stress and anxiety.
Not knowing you or your family all I can say is follow your heart.

Re: ladies, I need family advice...
Sometimes you will have family members who are jealous of your happiness and make problems for you and FH. Unfortunately I had that problem with a few relatives (one who is 31 and about to get married for the 3RD TIME). Remember its about you and him at thats it.
