Ladies taking their HM a few weeks/months after their Wedding....

How many days are you taking off from work for the wedding?

We arent going on HM till the end of December and since I am limited to 10 whopping vacation days a year, i have to use them wisely and am going to save them till the HM.

How many of you are only taking off a few days during the wedding time? I took off the Friday before the wedding, and Monday afterwards. Sux-it feels like I cant even enjoy my time after the wedding. Literally I'll be back at work on that Tuesday

My mother has been ill so I had no choice but to use my sick and vacation days (lots lots of dr's appoinments). I will be taking 2 weeks off unpaid for my HM

Nice that your job is so understanding....

I am pretty sure thats illegal though, have you looked into it? I know someone here had a sick mother and he was off for like 6 MONTHS paid....

FH is probably taking 2 days after the wedding, none before. He's using his personal days. He's a teacher so he doesn't get vacation but he gets 2 or 3 personal days each year and he accumulates sick days. Our wedding is on a Sunday so I think he is taking off Monday and Tuesday.

I didnt think about taking days off unpaid. I might just go ahead and do that come time for the HM.

Well FMLA says differently--they don't have to pay you for it, but I think you can collect short term...does anyone work in HR that you can talk to?

Overview

Covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee;
for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care;
to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or
to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.

I took 2 and a half days off before the wedding and went back to work that Monday. I def wish i could have taken longer.
I only get 10 days also at work so we're going on the HM the last week in December through the first week in January. This way I'm only using a week from each year.

You can take up to 12 weeks unpaid to care for a parent, child or spouse under the family medical leave act:

Thanks. I called HR today and I was told that I can take unpaid days only.

Re: Ladies taking their HM a few weeks/months after their Wedding....

Wedding is in September, HM in December. I get a total of 10 vacation/sick/personal days and I've already used 2. My HM has me missing 9 days of work and I'm also taking off the Friday before the wedding and Monday and Tuesday after. I just did not want to go back to work right away plus we have family in town. So, I won't get paid for 4 days of my HM... unless my bosses decide to be nice. Luckily they haven't given me a problem.

I'm taking off 3 days before the wedding, Wed-Fri, and then going back to work on Monday. Then I work a full week and a half, then taking Thursday and Friday off for our minimoon. I'm really not working much in December at all, just 15 days haha because of the 4 day holiday weekends too.

Then I'm not taking off till first 2 to 2 1/2 weeks of August for the real HM.
