after reading Colleens post.. i have a suggestion. Now that we're adults and will be living on our own... i think its crucial that you all go out and buy a sign. You know those black signs in bright redish orange font? 'for sale'... ?
get the 'BEWARE OF THE DOG' sign and put it on your livingroom window. Make sure its visible. You all need to be safe. its a sickkkkkkk world out there. its an eye sore but you need to be safe!!
this will discourage a lot of people from breaking into your homes!!!!!!!

they sell fake alarm company signs too. though i'd tend to think any seasoned burguler knows the fake alarm companies. or maybe i'm giving them too much credit.

I hate being home alone at night too. I am right now! FH is at a friend's.
I'm ok though. grading and watching tv.
I live in an apt building so can't get that sign. Would do it in my own place, def!
I run from my car lot (2 blocks away) to our house at night, or make FH met me and walk me up, or talk on the phone with him. Im such a baby.

I think I'm gonna tell my parents to do that...I really like that idea.
My dad always leaves our living room light on to 'fool the burglars'. he thinks they wont come in if they think we're home...
Maybe i'll go get one actully. after today my poor sister (she's only 13) is kinda upset...she's paranoid as it is. and there seriously are so many freaks out there. maybe it will ease her mind.

I never answer the door, especially when DH isn't home and the front door is always locked. And now that we have the dog, I'm always in the back living room with him. We have a shot gun upstairs by our bedroom

My FH family put up that sign and installed an alarm system after they were robbed a few months ago. Luckily know one was home, but the robbers took about $10,000 worth of jewlery.

when we moved into our 2nd house, my parents didnt buy the sign. we left it for the tenants to have in the 1st house cuz they were college girls..
my dad worked nights since i was 5...when i was 14.. it was Vday, I was at my friends house..my mom called and said some1 broke into our home. SHE WAS HOME. she was dozing off watching lifetime...and she sees a flashlight.. so she goes to the top of the stairs and a guy is walking up! she FLLLLLLIPPED OUT.. screamed sooo loud tha tthe guy said 'oh shyt!' turned back around and jumped out the back window.
turns out the guy opened the back window(den)..my mom had a lil tv dinner table thing.. with a doiley and a vase (such a greeek goat herder).. the guy FOLDED the doiley, the table AND put the vase on the couch..basically his goal was to break in..steal everything as neatly as possible so we wouldnt suspect anything.
mofo didnt know my mom was home. She was sooo lucky he didnt hurt her.
pleaseee get the beware of the dog sign.

Jessie is a really friendly dog... so i dont know what she would do if someone came in... when i walk in she barely lifts her head...

Your so right...I really need to do this. I have 2 dogs...1 is a lump on the couch and the other is a beagle/pit and thinks shes tough sh*t and barks in the front window if she hears sounds. If someone were to break in, she would growl and bark at them...and then lick them
