LAKE GEORGE- Who's been there ?

LAKE GEORGE- Who's been there ?

Looks like our family getaway is going to be to Lake George (in Mid-May). Since it wont be July weather, we wont be able to enjoy much water-things, but i'm sure we'll still have a great time..

**Any suggestions on what not to miss from the pros?

We're still looking for a place to stay, something like a condo or townhouse that will fit all of us together

Any ideas are welcome !!

I never stayed overnight, but we stopped there for the day on the way home from Johns friends house WAY WAY upstate. Lake George Village is so nice. There are shops, restaurants & mini golf. We walked the strip of shops & we loved it.

Have fun

Hey anna,
Im a Lake George Veteran, ive been there every summer since i was little.. Frank and I still go !

We love the mini ha ha boat ride around the lake. We love Dinner at the East Bay, or GEORGES, (the early bird specials are great). There is Christies on the Lake which is REALLY nice for dinner.

WE have been to the great escape, which is a great fun park.. and the tour up to the adirondak mountains is really nice. We have been to Fort William Henry and Fort Ticonderoga which are nice tours..
I always stay at the Balsam hotel (its not the fanciest by far, but its clean and the price is right) another nice hotel is the Admiral.

Ive also stayed at the Sundowner, The Lake Hotel, and The Georgian.

The outlets are GREAT!! one of my FAV things to do.. and sometimes they have little events on the lake, like craft fairs, fireworks ect.. go to www.lakegeorge.net
Look for coupons.

Dont forget to hit BEN AND JERRYS store, thats my fav!

The souvineer shops up and down the strip could keep you busy all day, and there is a cute mini golf place..

Im sure im forgetting tons of stuff but ill add more later!

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!

Re: LAKE GEORGE- Who's been there ?

Suzanne, NO WAY!!! I also spent EVERY summer of my life up there, from since I was a little girl!! Sadly, now that I'm a grown up with a 'real job' and living 300-plus miles away, that plan doesn't exactly work anymore.

But I LOVE it up there!! Lake George Village is great...and, Anna, in some ways it's better that you're going in May, since it won't be so overrun! In August, the place gets insane from all the tourists.

Let's see, things to do...there are so many! If you are staying somewhere on the lake, you should see about renting a speedboat and cruising around. Dock at the Algonquin and grab a pina colada on their deck (in my opinion, their pina coladas are the best!). I've never been to Christie's for dinner, but I have been there ar night and it's so much fun to just grab a beer and hang out on their deck. My friend Melanie's band Sirsy (www.sirsy.com) usually plays there on Wednesday nights. If it's too cold to sit outdoors and you want to go dancing, my cousins own a night club called DJ's up the street.

For dinner, you can do George's for their early bird, but just beware...there are TONS of families (read: screaming kids) and, in my opinion, the food has actually gone downhill the past few years. But I would recommend the Georgian, which is on the main street of the village, for a nice dinner. If you want even more upscale, try heading out of Lake George proper and go to Glens Falls...there are some really nice restaurants there...or up to Saratoga, about 30 minutes south. I'd recommend checking out Saratoga anyway...it's absolutely beautiful in the spring...and there's a great restaurant called the Inn at Saratoga (also a B&B).

If you're looking to stay walking distance in LG Village, though, there's plenty of cute little places for a casual meal. Check out an Italian place on the strip called Giuseppe's...I used to work there!!

After dinner, take a walk around the village and go play mini golf! The 'Around the World/Around the US in 18 Holes' courses are so much fun!

I'm sure I'll think of more in a bit...

I just sent you FM, Suzanne. You didn't work at Giuseppe's too, did you????

And, yes, my cousins own DJs. Their son Tommy used to play guitar out on the deck.
