Lake Grove - Thoughts and Opinions Needed!

Hi ladies,
My FH and I looked at a house in Lake Grove this past week. The area was nice and quiet. Does anyone live there? How do you like it? Is it close to shopping/restaurants? The school district would be Sachem. From what I hear that is a good school district. I live in Nassau so I need some help. Thanks!

Kimberly

ETA: I searched the archives and there were no previous posts on the home board about living in Lake Grove.

Re: Lake Grove - Thoughts and Opinions Needed!

We live in Ronkonkoma right near Lake Grove. It is a great area in terms of shopping, proximity to the mall (Smithaven is in Lake Grove), etc. We aren't going to have kids while we are living in our condo, but I have heard Sachem is good, though a very, very large district. I think they are building new schools to make them a bit smaller.

Re: Lake Grove - Thoughts and Opinions Needed!

I grew up in Lake Grove and went to school in Sachem. My parents still live there.

I can't really comment on the school district since I graduated over a decade ago. Yeah it was a big school (I graduated with over 1200 students), but I liked that it was big.

Lake Grove has a decent amount of stores, including the Smithaven Mall. I wouldn't say it has a lot of restaurants, but the neighboring towns have plenty of restaurants.

My only gripe with Lake Grove is the traffic. They keep building more and more homes, hence more people and with the mall nearby, the traffic just becomes a nightmare.

Re: Lake Grove - Thoughts and Opinions Needed!

I also grew up in Lake Grove - I loved it there - I still refer to that as home!
But there are a lot of things - restaurants, the mall, its pretty centrally located - your near everything. I went to Sachem - but I did graduate in 89 so that was a long time ago, but I thought it was a good district, big graduating class as well!
Since I've moved I've even noticed how much they have built it up - with all the new developments that werent there when I was.
