Lake Tahoe as a honeymoon destination

Lake Tahoe as a honeymoon destination

We decided to go to Lake Tahoe for our honeymoon at the end of April. Has anyone been there? Can you recommend any cool romantic places to stay?

I was in Tahoe last weekend. We live in SF so we're there a lot in the winter.

How'd you decide on Tahoe? Knowing why you want t o go there, can help me direct you to ideas.

Its really a winter and summer destination. The big attractions to Lake Tahoe are the ski mountains and the lake. Unfortunately in April, you may not be making use of either. Its kind of an in between time that may still be too cold for a lot of the outdoor activities but the mountains may already be closed (depending on snow conditions). Still beautiful though.

Do you know if you want North Lake Tahoe or South Lake? The casinos are in South Lake...

I'll ask my friend who lives up there (and works as a travel coordinator for Heavenly) for some romantic ideas...she knows all the places to stay.

Lake Tahoe!! What a great place. I have snowboarded there and it is so beautiful there. I have also been there in the summer. I agree with the post about North and South, personally I'd go North. I never stayed in a hotel we booked private accommodations. Have you checked any Tahoe websites? Sorry I can't be of more help but you made a great HM choice.

some info from my friend:

mountains are projected to close on 4/27/03 (which I see is your wedding date - its my 1st anniversary ). They may close earlier or later, so if you're going for the skiing, its risky.

nice hotels in South Lake:
marriott
embassy

more cozy:
Inn at Heavenly
Fireside Lodge B&B

My friend, Michelle, can check dates and availabilty for whatever you want. She gets deals through her connections.

Let me know dates and what kind of place your looking for - hotel, condo, B&B, North Lake or South...and she can help direct you.
