laptops...which one is better and why??

so my dell has broken for the 4th time (in a year and a half) and so im done with fixing it and want to look into getting a new one..this time i really want something thats not going to break down 1000 times

i hear macs are great but im afraid i wont be able to figure out how to use them bc they are so different...but if u have one let me know what u think

and i also heard the sony vio was good...anyone have one? do they last for a long time??

My HP died on me a month ago and my brother has two MACs and really likes them. He know a lot about computers. I wanted to get the MAC air but he said it is too slow so I got the MAC book and it works great. It takes some getting used to. I also got Windows Vista so it is like usin my HP computer. I didn't have to learn the apple program. I can still use that program if I want. I can choose if I want to use the apple program or the vista. If you order it online at apple you can get a student discount.

u dont get the discount if u go into the store? bc i know macs have teachers discounts also

I got the tiniest, cheapest apple Ibook 5 years ago and it's still going strong. No major problems. Still pretty fast. It depends what you want it for.

I have Dells at home We run ACERS at work and beat the living SH!T out of them. They are on almost 24/7 and have a ton of medical software on them and still run fantastic!!! The next personal lappy I buy will be an ACER!!

We have both Mac and windows operating systems...it definitely takes getting used to if you have been using windows for a while but it is doable. I am still getting used to the Mac but I must say i am loving it

I got FH a Compaq..i think it's the same company as HP b/c it says HP in the manual and at startup

Oh and if you do get the MAC and you want the windows because you are used to using it on your Dell get the Windows Vista OM. You have to decide if you want the basic or with media center and all of that. They have the different types but if you get OM it is the same as the other programs but it is soooo much cheaper. I hope this makes sense.

If I had to get another laptop it probably would be either the Macbook or a Dell- I have a Gateway for years and beat the crap out of it (I dropped it like 5 times in 8 years!) and it still works great.

Being a computer teacher - Imo Dell and Gateway have the best deals and also the best customer service that I have had to deal with.

my dell died 2 weeks ago and we bought a mac. its awesome! i love love love it! it took a few days to get used to but now i work on a pc for 10 hours at work and come home and use the mac and its fine.

i think its much easier then a pc

I adore my Sony Vaio. I've had it for almost 3 years and it's still as fast as the day I bought it. Not one problem ever.

I just HATE VISTA and i cant wait for my brother to take it off of here - i freeken hate it.

but the comp itself is great, very user friendly - even DH can use it

I just bought a mac in November when my Dell crapped out. It was definitely worth the investment. The battery life alone is a major reason. It lasts like 6 hours so even if I forget to plug it in or I want to go in the living room to do work, its not dead in an hour. I got the white macbook...the higher version and I love it. It's really reliable and it only took me a few weeks to be really comfortable with the mac interface. I got my student discount in the store as well so definitely ask about that. If you're worried about being comfortable, you can always go to the classes they have at the stores. Definitely do the research but you'll only buy it once. Good luck!

all of my friends with macs love them, but i got an IBM instead. we can take our law school exams on laptops, but the exam software isnt compatible with macs.

my IBM seems to be holding up pretty well. i have a thinkpad T60

I have a mac and it pisses me off because there are things I can't figure out how to open. I think this is my own fault though, when you purchase a mac they offer classes to help you learn to use the system, I neglected to do this and I regret it. I will say that I love my mac because it is almost 3 years old and I only had 1 major problem with it and the help line was able to guide me through fixing it. When this one kicks the bucket I plan on getting another mac and taking those classes I mentioned

i have a compac and so far so good. The only complaint is my powercord frayed after 6 mons..and they wont do anything about it...i dont even toss it arund or anything.

I had a toshiba and the pos was nothig but problems...overheating...motherboard...i got use out of my warranty but even then, its just the worst...

I bought FH a Gateway and he raves about it. hes also got a PC from them and it has broken 3 times.They are sending him a new pc. So the service is great. Plus the laptop has vista on it which he thinks is great. HTH
