Laser Hair Removal

Thinking maybe I should just get the laser hair removal for my underarms so that I don't have to keep shaving and have beautiful & clean underarms for my wedding Any with recommendation for a place in LI or in the city/Queens?

I go to my OB/GYN in Stony Brook, her name is Dr. Maxine Spicer. I've had two treatments on my legs, and am going for my third at the end of this week.
Start now, because it can take 5 or more treatments to get most of the hair.

another option is having your underarms waxed right before the wedding.

You aren't going to be hair free by your wedding. It takes many treatment. I had 4 treatments and I still grow hair under my arms. It is thinner but I would need at least another 2 sessions. YOu have to wait a while between treatments because hair can be dormant for a while and so you need to wait for it regrow to the surface.

Realize that you have to let the hair fall out too so you have to have some growth when you go in and then wait a while for it to fall out. You may not want hair underarms through the summer!!

If you can get 1-2 treatments in now - it will be thinner though.

You do need a few treatments before you will be almost hair-free. I had two sessions and have seen a noticable difference. You should know that you should not be tanned at all when you have it done -- so its best to have it done before the summer.

I used a place in Great Neck a few years ago and it works! I am hair free!!! My mom found the Dr because he was on Regis and Kathy Lee.

The hair does not have to be long. Actually, I had to shave before I went there -- I think so that they can get to the root.

My MD also tells me to shave the day of treatment.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Alright, so I give up on getting this mission accomplished before my wedding. But it seems like I can get this done through a doctor and not at one of those cosmetic laser-removal centers? Also, how much does it usually cost? What's a good deal? Thanks!!!

This would be great for the underarms...does it hurt? Is it like waxing in terms of the pain?
And how much does it cost about?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Interesting - I was told to have 3-4 days of growth - definitely ask before you go

It does hurt (and smell!) but not too badly.
I hear the ankles are the worst!
There is a cream that can help but you must ask when making the appointment because you have to get there 30 minutes early. I think it would be worth it though.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

That cream that samsbride said must be Xylocaine to numb the pain. Anyone can give some prices so all of us can get an idea. I think that will help. And thanks.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

My laser people said it's normally about $400 for both underarms, about 50 pulses each. Price decreases for every additional treatment.
I go to Gloria Danti Associates in Garden City, on Stewart Avenue and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Has anyone heard of the American Laser Center? I found them at one of the bridal shows. They said it's somewhere around $1000 to get the both underarms done - 6 sessions included. What do you think?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Yeah - you guys are going to love this but I had mine done when I lived in South Africa. It was $40 a session for both underarms. Same equipment that they use in the U.S. too. They couldn't understand why it was so expensive in the US.
I'm telling you - as Americans we get ripped off! I haven't gone for any treatments here because I can't justify the cost. We may be moving abck to south Africa in a few months. If we do - I'm going to have it done again.
