Laser hair removal?

Okay, I'm too chicken for the bikini wax... has anyone tried laser hair removal? Does it work? Does it last? Is it super expensive?

Re: Laser hair removal?

I haven't tried it but someone every close to me has. VERY expensive, is not permanent, and the laser hurts!!! Electrolysis is better bc it's cheaper and permanent. Hurts too, but what doesn't?

Oh, jeez, the laser hurts, too?! Great. Okay, electrolysis it is, then.

$300 per session for a bikini. It usually requires 4 sessions. But it can hurt (from what I heard). I am going to schedule it for two weeks and I will let you know more then.

Electrolysis is not permanent you have to go many times, laser is more permanent than electrolysis plus it also hurts.

Okay, now you're just confusing me.

Laser is not totally permanent but you go far less times than electrolysis - plus i think it lasts longer. That is why laser is newer - they improved upon electrolysis.

That's true you have to go a lot of times for electrolysis but it's a heck of a lot cheaper and is permanent once the treatment is complete. Laser is not permanent, it just slows the growth.

They both hurt.

Laser is a lot more expense.

I agree with emdonlon....electrolosys IS PERMANENT and you do have to go a heck of a lot more times but its small payments as opposed to one big lump sum...and it REALLY doesnt hurt all that bad...

Re: Laser hair removal?

I'm doing electrolysis on my eyebrows. Girls, don't ever decide to pluck BENEATH the brow! I've been going for a year, every other week. I pay about $15-$20 a session. My person charges a dollar a minute. Results have been good. I think I am probably almost done. I hope, anyway. It's a burning sting that is momentary. I can sit through a treatment with no problem.

Talked to the friend who is doing the laser. She said that they can lower the laser so it doesn't hurt, but then you don't get the full effect of it. It dramatically slows growth, but doesn't stop it permanently. But she's shelled out THOUSANDS of dollars for this. A lot of money, and is very unhappy that it won't be permanent.

JMO - clearly, it is different for everybody! if you have lighter skin and darker hair, the laser will work well for you and you will probably have 'permanent' results. in hair removal, the 'p' word is usually not used because even after your hair is gone, lots of things (usually hormone related) can cause hair growth again (e.g., pregnancy, aging, etc.).

anyway, i currently do Alase, which is a form of laser. I don't think it hurts as much as electrolysis, and it is a heck of a lot faster (but i have a thing against needles so after one electrolysis session i was out of there!). And it is expensive, but you can spread the payments out and also look for discounts (usually during winter months). Not sure if it is permanent b/c only went to two treatments (they told me it would take 6 for me). 10xxxx better than waxing!!!!!!! also, i use a numbing cream which really really helps, so i barely feel it.

i never thought i would ever do anything like this, but as pointed out in the responses to your other post, vanity and this Bridal extravaganza are like Las Vegas, they eventually **** you in! plus, i must admit, it is really nice to not have to shave!! good luck and FM me with any more questions.

I personally just live through the wax... but my boss does laser and said it was EXTREMELY expensive - and it still hurts a little.

Re: Laser hair removal?

I've done both laser and electrolysis. I don't have too much more to add to the other posts.

I just wanted to say, at least in my experience, the laser hair removal works well on the darker coarser (sp?) hair. It does not work on the finer hair. So I would say which you choose depends on the hair.

The laser does hurt a bit, but it's definitely bearable. This also depends on the area.

P.S.- You also cannot be at all tan to do laser treatments, at least according to my dermotologist. Another reason I'm now doing electrolysis.

Re: Laser hair removal?

I just called a place near me and it was $150. for the first treatment for eyebrows, then it varies after. Is that a good price or should I keep looking?

Re: Laser hair removal?

I get laser on my stomach. It was $300 first session, $200 second session, $100 every session after that, but I have to say that I have pale skin and dark hair and after 6 sessions, its definately NOT permanent. Just reduced the growth a little to a lot, varies from person to person. I'll probably stop after the honeymoon...I can't afford this!!

Re: Laser hair removal?

Be careful using the laser for your eyebrows - it can be dangerous so near to your eyes. The laser specialist I know will not do eyebrows. Be sure to check a few places to see what they all say.
