I was just wondering if anyone ever had eye laser surgery? I wear glasses now, and I was just wondering about the surgery.....I also wonder if my insurance would cover it hmmmm.

Re: Laser Surgery
my friend had it done a few months ago and LOVES that she got it done. She said for the first few days she had to wear her glasses at night or while driving but now she has no problems at all.
She said her insurance did not cover it.

Re: Laser Surgery
I got my eyes done in 2000. You know the big E on the eye chart, couldn't tell you it was an E. Now I have 20/20 vision. It is absolutely amazing....To be able to see the difference between shampoo and conditioner in the shower To see the alarm clock in the morning My husbands insurance covered my surgery which was the nicest added bonus.....They don't cover it anymore.

Re: Laser Surgery
I was thinking about getting it. I have been wearing glasses since 1989, and I cannot get contacts. I have a phobia about putting my finger near my eye....ewwwww. I was thinking about the laser surgery but I didnt know the pros and cons of the surgery.

Re: Laser Surgery
I did in June of last year. Best thing ever. Insurance covered part of it. But even if it hadn't it would be worth it. I see 20/20 now!!
I have to admit the surgery was quick but freaked me out. You can see but not feel. The entire thing took like 15 minutes but it was stressful.

Re: Laser Surgery
You dont feel a thing? I heard you have a wierd feeling....
What did the surgery cost you if you dont mind me asking>?
I was supposed to go to the eye doctor today and I looked to see if my insurance company covers this doctor, and they dont. Figures right?
Well I called at lunch to cancel and I get a stupid message that says the office is closed for lunch, and you cannot leave a message....grrrr. My appointment is at 2:45. I have a meeting from 1:15 to 2pm and I know when I call them back they are going to be mad.
So anyway...I checked the insurance, and it says I have to go to a VSP doctor. That is one that will be covered by my plan. So they gave me a list of doctors that are near my house, but I have never heard of any of them grrrr.

Re: Laser Surgery
They put these numbing drops in. after they took effect I couldn't feel anything. They hold your eye open with this wire like thing. It reminded me of the thing you used as a kid to dip easter eggs in the dye (I know I am weird) That was uncomfortable but didn't hurt. And I could feel it. But when they ran water or solution over my eye I could see it but not feel it.
I went to Stahl Eye Center in Garden City. The procedure was $1800 for both eyes. I think my insurance covered 20%

MyFH had it done back in July. He loves it!! He says its the best thing he ever did for himself. Its was a lttle expensive and his ins didnt cover it. you are very lucky if they do cover some of it.

Re: Laser Surgery
I did it two years ago and it was ABSOLUTELY the BEST thing I've ever done in my life!! It truly has changed my life.
I don't really remember how much it was. I think $1500 or $2500 unfortuntely don't remember which. It could have been $5000 and it was still worth it.
I am the biggest wimp!!! Often feel woosy when TALKING about blood and stuff and I thought it was no problem. It was very quick (like 4 minutes an eye) and NO PAIN at all!!!! The only pain you felt was some buring afterwards but mine wasn't so bad (my cousin had it done at the same time and her burning was a little worse)
I highly suggest doing this

Re: Laser Surgery
My SIL had it and hasn't had any problems. She passed out in the office from nerves...but other than that, she was fine!

Re: Laser Surgery
there was a letter in glamour this month about it...the dr said she is still waiting for better procedures, but said make sure you find a dr who has done 500+ procedures with less that 1% complications
I am not a candidate yet, but I am hopeful that they will improve to fix my problems...

Re: Laser Surgery
I had it done 6 years ago and couldn't be happier about it. The procedure wasn't really painful at all - uncomfortable, but since they numb your eyes, there's no pain, just pressure (BTW - this was the LASIK procedure I had.) Afterwards I had some stinging but they did give me drugs for the pain. It was truly amazing - as soon as I got up from the procedure, my vision was soooo much improved. In a day or so it was almost perfect. Today I went for my annual eye exam and my Dr. said that my vision is still close to 20/20 and no need for glasses. I am still sooo glad I did it!!! I LOVE waking up in the morning and being able to see the alarm clock without having to look for my glasses. I know the doctor I used was highly recommended by my regular eye doctor. He had told me this guy had been doing it practically since the beginning so he'd done a ton with great results (including my regular eye dr's daughter-in-law.)
