Has anyone ever had this - what are your experiences? And any Dr recommendations would be helpful! TIA Tracey

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
My FH just had it done! He only had it done less than one month ago, and his vision is now 20/15 .. he sees perfectly and had no problems, etc. He LOVES not wearing his contacts/glasses (I am envious!)
He went somewhere in Garden City, I think it was called Diamondvision Laser Center .. I'll get the info from him.
I wanted to get it also (I have the worst eyes) but I was not a good candidate when I looked into it awhile ago.

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
I am strongly considering it. I am borderline needing glasses and my prescription hasn't changed in 6 years. Another plus is my mother is a RN at NUMC and they are giving employees and their families a deal of $550 an eye. I am just a little nervous. I heard its the worst 10 mins per eye that you will spend in your life because your eyes are open the whole time and you see everything!

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
Thats what I'm afraid of, do you 'know' whats going on? I can't stand the thought of something touching my eyes! (except me putting in my own lenses) I am in Suffolk County - toward the east end - (Patchogue, Shirley, Center Moriches) Any info would be soooo appreciated! I would love to have it done but am afraid.

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
my FH said it wasn't bad and/or painful at all! .. he said the worst part is you feel some pressure , but no pain . And he said you really cannot 'see' anything because they are working so closely on your eye that its hard to distinguish. You are awake and they tell you what they're about to do while its going along, just to take your mind off it.
It could not hurt to go for a consultation somewhere, to see if you are a good candidate .. most places offer free consults. As I said, I did the free consult , but my eyes are so bad they could not guarantee I still wouldn't need contact/glasses even after the procedure .. so for me it made no sense.

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
Thank you Felicia! I'm pretty sure I'm a good candidate for the procedure. My eyes haven't changed in years, I've been wearing eyeglasses/contacts since I'm 12, I'm 33 now. And it seems they haven't changed in about 6 years. I'm not completely blind without them. My contacts are -2.50 and -2.75, not sure what that means but the eye doctor said it isnt 'that bad'. I'm gonna try to go for a consultation somewhere but wanted to see if anyone could recommend a good Dr. fairly close to my area. I would just love to be able to wake up and be able to see clearly without glasses! As I'm sure everyone who wears them feels!

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
I used Dr. Donnefeld from TLC - he did mine and both my brothers - they have the newest laser - so you don't have to smell your eye burning because that was the worst part.
Also don't assume you are a good candiate because thought i would be too persription had not changed in 7 years - but the most important thing is the thickness of the cornea - mine is thin -
I did nothave lasik - ecause i have thin eyes - i had Lasak - more painful but still worth it
I had it done over 2 years ago and still have 20/15 vision
hope this helps- Donefeld is expensive but definetly worth it- he came highly recommended to us and you do not want to take chances with your eyes - A friend who went to a cheaper place has the halo effect around light
Also i always had worse night vision - eyes did not ract to change qquick enough and they fixed that too

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
Thank you for the info - when you get a chance can you tell me where this Dr. is? You are right I shouldn't assume I'm a good candidate. I want to go to a Dr that is recommended not someone I just pick out of a phone book! There are so many!!! (you can smell your eye burning?) Ewwwww

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery
I was legally blind (20/1400), had LASIK in February of 2002 and am a HUGE fan of it. I still cannot believe that I can wake up and just see everything without glasses or contacts. It did not hurt AT ALL.
