LASIK eye surgery

LASIK eye surgery

Has anyone had Lasik done recently. If you have give me your honest opinion. I am considering doing it but I am very nervous. I have significant astigmatism which can make it tricky. Does anyone reccommend a doctor? Thanks.

Re: LASIK eye surgery

DH had it done one month before our wedding, and was sooooooo nervous. He really was such a baby about it. He went to the TLC Eye Center in Garden City, but you need to have a doctor sort of 'sponsor' you. It's hard to explain, but your eye doctor takes you there and then the TLC doctor performs the 'surgery'.

It is truly amazing and after all is said and done DH couldn't be happier.

FM me if you want the name of DH's eye doc, he's in Manhasset on Northern Blvd.

i had my surgery done through TLC eye center also - almost 4 years ago, and my brother 2 years ago, and other brouther 5 years ago

we all used Dr. Donnefled, asked for him to do the surgery because he was recommended to us from others who used him - we had a consultation done through TLC - becuase none of us have ever really used an eye doctor for any time just visits at the store to get contacts

we all have 20/20 vision or better

Re: LASIK eye surgery

the best way is to plan - if you figure out what your surgey is going to cost then put that amount into a medical expense account to be taken out before taxes it will be cheaper

it can range from $3000-$10,000 mattering on your eyes - typically around $4,000 - really bad astigmatisms can take 2 surgeries and get really expensive - minor astigmatisms can be done with one surgery

I had it done about 5 years ago and I hate to say it but I really need to go to the eye doctor and get glasses. My vision was perfect for the 1st 3 years and slowly it has gone down hill. I cannot afford another surgery so eventually I will have to get glasses again.

DH used Dr. Donnefeld, and the TLC center guarantees the surgery for LIFE! All he has to do is go back to the office for an exam and they will fine tune.

It cost him $5800, but his union b-fund reimbursed him (basically his own money).

i used him back in july, and i also know about 5 other people who have used him. I have bad astigmastism but i wasn't considered for actual lasik, i had prk surgery which is more involved. i financed the surgery and it was supposed to be 3500 but i think they messed up and i got it for 3000. i still have halos at night and i might need enhancement surgery, it's basically the same surgery all over again except with lower setting lasers. i am going today for an enhancement consult.

I just had lasik surgery on Tuesday and it is GREAT. I used Dr Basilice and the surgery was around 4k.

My surgery is garunteed for life as well as long as I go for yearly visits.

If you have any questions.. FM me.

I used to work for an ophthalmologist that performed LASIK - I would just caution you to make sure that your vision is stable before you have it - if not, you may need to have it again in the future. Since LASIK thins your cornea, I personally wouldn't want to have it done more than once.

Some people with very poor vision cannot even get it done. I have VERY thing corneas and they will not even operate on me, I am too much of a risk. Keep in mind my vision is VERY poor. My contacts are -9 and -10.5!!!!

I had it done about 5 years ago. I went to Dr. Joseph Dello Russo. He was great and I highly recommend him. He has offices in Brooklyn, Manhattan and New Jersey.

Your vision is going to progress at the same rate it would have if you had not had the surgery. The surgery does nothing to stop the natural worsening of your vision. There are some age ranges where it seems to be more stable than others. I had it done 6 years ago. My vision is not perfect anymore but still very close.

I had mine done at a place where I would have to pay to have it again. I think it was guaranteed for a year or 2 but I can't remember. I really wanted to use Dr. Hatsis, and I still think he's one of the best. My husband had it at TLC. His is guaranteed for life, but there is fine print in the guarantee. He negates the guarantee if he does not follow up at exactly one year intervals with doctors associated with TLC.

I still think that LASIK is great and I am constantly recommending it!

Re: LASIK eye surgery

I had it done a couple years ago. Overall it is fabulous not having to wear glasses or deal with contacts. I do feel that my vision is starting to worsen, though. And my eyes get REALLY dry and they hurt in the middle of the night so I keep eyedrops by the bed. That's a small price to pay however. Oh, speaking of price, I think mine was like $3700 and insurance did NOT cover it.

wow! and i thought my -.4.25 and -3.75 were bad! i really want to look into whether my insurance will cover this! i have worn glasses since the 3rd grade--and my eyes are sensitive and i have difficulty wearing contact lenses for more than a few hours at a time. (and they have to be single use--throw aways only!)

My perscription was like a -5.50 and I had thick corneas so I was a great candidate...

It never hurts to go for a consultation and see what they say.

Re: LASIK eye surgery

i just went today for my follow up and they said i need enhancement surgery, but probably just on one eye. i asked him what my vision was before and he said 20/1000 in the right eye and i dont' know what the other eye was. now the right eye is 20/30 and the left eye is 20/25. i didn't even know 1000 existed!!
Insurance doesn't cover it because it's considered cosmetic, but at TLC they asked me if i showed proof of particular ins companies they make deductions. My ins company was one but I never showed proof of my card. (i dont' have vision ins coverage either)
