Lasik update

Lasik update

Hi!. JUst a quick update. I didn't have the Lasik procedure done. I had PRK instead. The DR felt my cornea was too thin to make a flap and that Lasik was not a good option. In PRK it's the same thing except without a flap. It takes longer to heal because your cornea has to grow back over your eye, the laser through your cornea so it has to regrow. The procedure itself was okay. It was pretty quick. Now with PRK I won't be able to really see for 3-5 days. It's really hard trying to write this message. Last night I was not doing too well. My eyes really burned. I was miserable. Finally I was able to fall asleep about 8:30pm and I just woke up now at 3:30am. I don't have pain now, just a slight uncomfortable feeling and some blurry vision. I'm also REALLY sensitive to light. Thanks for all your well wishes and support

congrats! For someone who can't see, you did a great job with that message. It'll all be worth it when you don't need contact lenses anymore

What's PRK stand for? How is it different from LASIK?

oh wow! I hope that you have a quick recovery. It'll all be worth it when you can see.

Re: Lasik update

photorefractive keratectomy

LASIK patients have less discomfort and obtain good vision more quickly (with PRK improvement is gradual and over a few days or even months), but many surgeons prefer PRK for patients with larger pupils or thin corneas. ( my pupils are double the size on a normal persons and I also have a tin cornea)

PRK is performed with an excimer laser, which uses a cool ultraviolet light beam to precisely remove ('ablate') very tiny bits of tissue from the surface of the cornea in order to reshape it. When you reshape the cornea in the right way, it works better to focus light into the eye and onto the retina, providing clearer vision than before.

Hey Maureen,

Hope you have a speedy recovery. I almost had PRK too. In the end the Dr measure my cornea again and found that LASIK was ok for me. By next week you will be fine, and enjoying your perfect vision.

Re: Lasik update

I am happy to hear that everything went well. I have heard the PRK is more painful b/c it is like they are scraping your cornea (so I was told by someone who had it done).

I hope you have a speedy recovery and enjoy your new eyesight.
