Hi Ladies, As a way to save some time and money, our photographer has suggested that we not have them stay until the very end of the reception, because usually its just mostly pics of people dancing. Instead, we could use the time we purchased for pics earlier in the day when we are getting ready, etc. I was wondering if there are any 'major' photography wedding moments that take place in the last hour. Do people generally cut the cake prior ? Also, does the garter/bouquet toss occur before the cake? Its been about a year since I attended a wedding, and never really paid attention! I'm trying to figure out of this is a good idea or not...
Thanks :)

Re: Last hour of reception
It really depends on what you want in your wedding. I have been to one wedding that the bride pushed EVERYTHING up, dances, garter toss, cake, everything.. because her family had big drinkers she didn't want them to be drunk while these special moments happen. So if you want to do some events earlier, you can and that can definately save you money.
I am not sure if you are having a videographer but they are also going to have some things added in that your photographer isn't going to have.
Or maybe you can ask the photographer to have their assistant the last hour to save on money? See if that could help.

We're intentionally cutting the cake during the last hour to avoid having people leave early (many people use the cake as a signal for leaving). The timing really is up to you though.

The timing is really up to you. Both my photographer and videographer are staying until the VH. By then the cake will be cut and garter/bouquet will be thrown (if we decide to do a bouquet/garter toss).

It is totally up to you and what you want to do! If it's easier on your budget, then you can move everything up. Just remember that when the wedding is over, the pictures/video will be all that's left so be sure you get all the pictures you want!!!
