I invited 2 widows... I found out what they prefer to be called.

I ended using Mrs. Jane Smith for both

luckilly we only have long -term widows (is that really lucky??? that came out wrong...i just mean no one has died recently....) so we wrote
Mrs. herfirstname lastname

i think i asked about this at the time....and someone found from somewhere that you do it that way regardless of the time...but my issue was whether or not to us Mrs or Ms..so i could be wrong...although if you think about it, let's say she wasn't a widow and you were inviting her to a party....a bridal shower maybe...you would've invited Mrs. herfirstname lastname then right (husband not attending this event)?....well then, why would that change cause it's a wedding and she is now a widow?

i think you keep the Mrs. to show respect for the marriage/committment but that using her name allows her to be her own person (and not even in a liberated/PC kind of way...) and not just his shadow/wife. i could be totally off base though
