Last minute cancellation

Last minute cancellation

A girl I went to college with had her wedding this summer and it was by far the worst wedding I've ever been to. FH and I were going to give her $200 because it was a hall wedding and she wasn't paying remotely close to that per plate. We got there and there was plastic utensils, my placecard said 'and guest' instead of FH's name and my sweet 16 was fancier...so we took money out of the envelope and wound up giving her $120.

FF to now when she calls 5 days before my wedding to say, 'DH and I are poor and can't afford to come and give a gift, so can I just send you a check for $100 and not come?' I told her that her seat was already paid for and she can do what she has to do, but it's really inconvenient for me if she does not come.

Basically, I'd get $20 less for her not to come and also lose $200 because I already paid for her at the RH. She was like, 'I didn't think it would be that big of a deal.' Well, when you have a $hittyazz wedding, you don't pay per person and you don't worry about people not coming. The only reason I was invited to her wedding was to 'fill the place up' and get more gifts to even out their expenses because the hall (which smelled like pee) was one price.

I'm livid...

Thanks for reading if you got this far.

I don't blame you for being annoyed. As a recent bride, not matter what her wedding was like, she has to understand that there is a cost associated with each plate. She could have told you sooner.

I had something similar... but it was 'my husband has to work, can i bring a friend (who i do know)? oh and i can't afford a gift- AT ALL'

what was I supposed to say? it wasn't even like it was via phone, we were face to face and OUT. so I told her not to worry about it.

I didn't tell DH about the 'gift' or lack there of until the wedding night when he was opening cards. he was PISSED... he doesn't want me speaking to that friend anymore.

Alyssa, I really don't have any advice, I just have a mound of 's.

She's not a good friend anyway, but now it's annoying because I'm out $320 unless she happens to send the $100 in which case I'm only out $220.

I think I'm going to tell two people they can bring dates...
