Re: last name
I love my Italian last name and FH has a name that is soooo the opposite of Italian I'm taking his name (because it would kill him if I didn't) but keeping my name as my middle name.

Re: last name
I think for some girls it's easier professionally, and for others it's emotional attachment.
I'm not one of them so I really can't speak for everyone else. I for one can't wait to be greek-ified!

Re: last name
I think it's just work to go through changing your name.. all the paperwork... and not only that but just everything that you do has to have the name change... so usually it's easier to hyphenate it or even keep their own name. Personally at first I thought about huphenating it... but I'm not going to do that.. I'm just going to become a Sands! I might do the middle name though.. ha ha ha! Oh.. other times... maybe they just don't like FH last name... I have some friends with very unfortunate names and I can understand why someone wouldn't want it. One close friend of mine.. her last name is Weiner... and she has a brother.. so you marry him and you become a Weiner!

Re: last name
Well professionally I'll probably use my maiden. Everyone knows me by my maiden and I work in advertising where knowing people is everything. If I use his last at work, some of my clients probably won't even call me back, hahah.
But personally, drivers license, all that jazz, I'll use his.

i fall into both of those categories. i guess part of it is to defy tradition too. i don't like the idea of changing to a different name that i don't like as much at 30 years old bc someone says i'm supposed to.

Re: last name
I am sad because I am an only child and he has two brothers. But I am old fashioned so I am doing it. But i could see why someone in my position would want to keep the name going.
If I had really established myself in my television career I would have kept my name, sadly I do not have to.

Re: last name
I'm changing my last name. And I can't wait too! Although for me, besides the fact that I knew I wouldl always do that, I've been stuck with my father's step father's last name, and he's Asian, but we're not. So it's been a pain to explain to the story to literally EVERY SINGLE PERSON I've EVER met. No joke.

Re: last name
I'm a teacher and my coworkers and I all call each other by our last names. I know they're not going to stop calling me by my maiden name but I'm going to change it anyway and people who don't know me will think I'm two different people!

I'm doing that as well (my last name as kids' middle names) except FH also wants them to have regular middle names so he gets to pick those. My poor 4-named kids.

I too am an only child, yet very traditional. I also ALWAYS looked forward to taking on my hubbies last name. Not until I saw the posts on this board, did I even consider asking my dad his opinion on this. He reassured me that he woudl not be hurt if I took my husbands name. He said, 'Eh we have your cousin.' (My cousin keith will carry my last name)..so we are all good! I am super excited to get my new last name... I even made a slogan
