Re: last name
I don't mind taking my FH's last name it'll make mine alot shorter which is great.. I do however enjoy teasing him that I am going to take an alternative last name that blends the first part of my last name with the end of his name

Re: last name
I am keeping my last name professionally but changing it personally.
I love FH dearly, but I have been Gina S____ for 40 years. I am not about to surrender that because I am now getting married. I love who I am and I love the name my parents gave me. I also truly love FH, but his name is HIS name. Our children will have his last name and we will be the M_____ family.
At work, however, I will continue to be S____. People know me as S_________, people who I haven't spoken to in years know me as _________.
I feel like changing my name at this point of my life is changing my identity. I cannot wait to marry my best friend and the best person I've ever met, but he doesn't expect me to give up part of my identity to do so - yet another reason why I love him so much.

Re: last name
I don't have a middle name so I am keeping my name and adding his... if I had a middle name it would be way too long.
I just dont want to give up my heritage and self....if that makes sense....it is not that I don't love him and am not committed to him, it is just that I want to keep that part of me with me. I will be referred to as Mrs. (his last name) but I just don't feel the need to totally give up my name

i keep reading that so many girls are not planning on changing their last name? is there a reason for that?
i cant wait to take FH's last name!
I'm with you.
Although i think the idea of giving my kids my last name as a middle name is nice.
My middle name is my mother's maiden name, and I've always liked that. My BFF, MOH's, maiden name is Brennan so I want her to name a son that, I think that is a cute way to use your name too. I am changing and all my friends have, but maybe if I had a lot of published work under my maiden name, or if I was a doctor and had built a reputation under that name I wouldn't.

Re: last name
I'm taking FH's last name. I want to share the same last name as our children. Plus, I don't really have any emotional ties to my current last name. It was given to my great-grandfather when he came through Ellis Island, so it's just kinda an American, plain, regular, last name in my mind.

Re: last name
I am excited but also a little sad about taking fh's last name. His has a great Italian last name and I am soooooo irish it's not even funny! I love my irish last name because I feel I can identify with it so I know it will be a hard adjustment but overall I am happy to do it.
