The name you put on your marriage license - is that the one you must have, by law? Is that what SS & DMV go by for your name change? I am still deciding if I am going to hyphenate for professional reasons. We are getting our marriage license tomorrow - so does my decision have to be made by tomorrow?

On my license it just had lines for maiden name and surname (if applicable). The woman typed it herself. But I have heard other people state they had to hyphenate, so I'm confused. I wasn't hyphenating, but the woman never asked me if I was or wasn't.

On our marriage liscense it has his last name... i just went to change my name at SS and DMV... i recently decided that i wanted to make my maiden name my second middle name, so i added that to the forms... they didnt seem to care, they did whatever i had on the forms that i filled out...
