Re: Latin culture question...
I'm pretty sure that's an Italian tradition. Not sure about Latin.

Re: Latin culture question...
My DH's family is Puerto Rican and they don't really celebrate Christmas Eve at all. I don't know about other latin cultures though.

Re: Latin culture question...
Roast Pork (PERNIL) is more customary with rice and peas and another dish called 'pasteles' which is ground plantain stuffed with olives, spices and pork and wrapped in either bannana leaves (?) or I believe a wax paper.

Re: Latin culture question...
my inlaws are Puerto Rican, they do Christmas Day, but Christmas Eve is low key and they go to midnight mass. Our Cuban friends have a huge Christmas Eve party and roast a pig

Re: Latin culture question...
I am from Colombia and I have never had fish on Christmas Eve... so at least in my country it is not a tradition.

I'm puerto rican, we're very into serving pork (pernil) on christmas or any big family gathering for that matter. Pasteles are usually an appetizer or side dish, my grandma makes hers w/wax paper.

Re: Latin culture question...
Dominican here and we don't do fish. I think there would be a scary drunken food fight if you served fish at our Christmas Eve dinner!
We usually have Pernil (the roast pig) AND/OR Turkey. Yep, often there is both.
Mmmmm...can't wait!
