Okay, I am interested to know of any traditions we have as latinas. I am Cuban & Puerto Rican.
I found two Cuban traditions:
Cuban Brides should not wear pearls on their wedding day, pearls are thought to be the tears of an oyster, so every pearl you wear on your wedding day is a tear you shall shed during your marriage.
The other is Cigars are given out, much in the tradition a new dad gives them out. Cigars are a celebratory sign in Cuba
Any others?
I am trying to come up with ideas of things to do or have during the reception besides latin music that represent my heritage.
FH is Italian and Polish, we are doing Polka's and their is a Polish drink we are having..

Re: Latina Brides.. traditions?
I posted about this last week. Im Guatemalan-American and my FI is Italian-American. I was thinking of doing the lasso, which is two ropes intertwined with each other. It represents the strong bonds of love (the rope) and eternal love (since its a circle). The other was the passing on of pennies. My mom still has her pennies from her wedding, so Im thinking of using them. The pennies represent two things. The first one being the groom gives them to his bride to insure her that he will provide for her. The second, pennies symbolize good luck (for the marriage). I think I might do the pennies, not too sure about the lasso. If I can get it from my country, then I'll do it.

Um....for your first question I dont know and for your second question, from what my mom told me the best man is to hand the pennies over to the groom, who hands them to his bride who hands them to her MOH for safekeeping.

My mom hates when I wear pearls....she says that I will cry...so...for sure no pearls for me on my wedding day!!! I really can't think of any other spanish tradition...
I am from panama. I just asked my columbian girlfriend what tradition she did for her wedding and she said, she did where pearls...it is allowed only on the wedding date and after. So, in otherwards...in her country single people can't wear perls

Thanks Mama!
I really have heard of nothing else except that the bride MUST dance with her father or father figure to Mi Nina Bonita by Ismael Miranda. That may just be my family though.

Never heard of the song before, but then again, I dont listen to spanish music. I was thinking for me and my dad, we would dance to 'My baby you' by marc anthony. But that's my FI favorite song, and he wants it to be our song. So instead, I was thinking 'what a wonderful world' by louie armstong.

That song thing is driving me nuts. I know that we have to dance Mi Nina Bonita (Toman San Julian version). My dad & I both love that song 'Can't stop loving you' by Phil Collins, and I want to dance it with him. What do you all think? Any recommendations?
ETS: about the traditions, I'll find about them tonight. I'll ask FSIL.

Nan&Dave, I would really go with what you feel is the right choice. Why dont you talk about it with him and see what he says? If you both feel so strongly about the phil collins songs, then go for it!!!!

Hey PookiesAngel...I'm a CUBARICAN too!
I didnt realize that about the pearls...I may reconsider that one.
I'm not to savy on the tradiciones...but anyone know of any P.R. ones? The only thing I can think of are 'capias' and I am definately NOT doing that.
