Latina.com Jessica Alba ashamed of her heritage?

Original post by JennysMOH

Had to put this up just to get my little bit of anger out of me concerning her. Its from Latina magazine's daily e-mails. I had heard something similar to this before but for her to say it yet again it just hurts us Latinas. I am a second generation and I am very proud of my Latin heritage. I know others that are third, fourth, fifth generations who are proud of their heritage regardless if it is Latina, Italian, Greek, etc. If she feels this way then she should not accept invitations to the ALMA awards, Latin Grammys or anything else that brings to light the Latino heritage and those proud of it. JMHO.

Jessica Alba ashamed of her heritage?

While we'd like to believe that what Jessica Alba reportedly has been saying about her Mexican heritage is a big, fat, ugly lie, we're just not so sure anymore. Here are some bytes excerpted from her interview with Para Todos magazine. It's got many Latinos saying, 'What in the heezy?!'

'I've got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out.'

'My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose.'

'My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me. So I never felt connected or attached to any race specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere.'

If all of that is true, Jessica Alba needs a history lesson and charm school.

Hollywood is not a color-or race-blind place, and I am sure that she is on the go-to list whenever a director is casting Latina actresses. To say that she has advanced in her career based on her 'acting' abilities alone would unrealistic. Whether she wants to realize it or not, she has stood to benefit financially from her undesired heritage.

And, no matter where you are from, you should be proud and respectful of your heritage. To make such ignorant remarks about Mexican people reveals a lot about her maturity and character, and hopefully she learn the error of ways one day. Until then, may every bite of Latin food give her a case of raging Montezuma's revenge!

That actually sounds very cut and pasted, like she said other things and they left it out. She's saying that she wasn't raised with cultural traditions, so she only feels American. And there's nothing wrong with wanting to identify as 'American,' especially if you were rejected by people from your own ethnicity because you were too 'mixed.' Which it sounds like she was: 'My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me.'

Give the girl a break, you can't believe what's printed in these magazines. Years ago, I was interviewed by Newsday for a stupid feature article, and they totally misrepresented what I said to fit their theme. Really pissed me off, especially since it wasn't even anything important. Now imagine this actress talking and the writer wanting to get something juicy to increase sales. Don't buy into the hype.

Yeah I can believe it. She doesn't seem to think before she speaks. I read a magazine recently where she was quoted complaining that 'people don't see beyond my sexiness' Come on who says that about themselves?!

honestly i could give a rats a$$n whether shes proud to be mexican or not but i can relate to not feeling accepted in either culture i mean im 100% latin born abroad and everything, and just because im pale as hell and didnt speak spanish all the timeor listen to spanish music and such i wasnt ever asked to be in latin club at school or even invited to international night ever why b/c i look 'american' i dont wear my culture on my sleeve but that doesnt mean im not proud of it. and in response the people being bent out of shape about her making the seed spreading comment or what have you, get a grip you show me one person that doesnt poke fun at their own culture my fh is sicilian and he makes fun of it all the time, hell my 75 year old colombian grandma is the first to make fun of colombians, while wearing her reb, blue and yellow soccer jersey no less....who cares!!! give her a break this is obviously some media stunt and at the end of the day any publicity is good publicity
