Latina.com Jessica Alba ashamed of her heritage?

Latina.com Jessica Alba ashamed of her heritage?

Had to put this up just to get my little bit of anger out of me concerning her. Its from Latina magazine's daily e-mails. I had heard something similar to this before but for her to say it yet again it just hurts us Latinas. I am a second generation and I am very proud of my Latin heritage. I know others that are third, fourth, fifth generations who are proud of their heritage regardless if it is Latina, Italian, Greek, etc. If she feels this way then she should not accept invitations to the ALMA awards, Latin Grammys or anything else that brings to light the Latino heritage and those proud of it. JMHO.

Jessica Alba ashamed of her heritage?

While we'd like to believe that what Jessica Alba reportedly has been saying about her Mexican heritage is a big, fat, ugly lie, we're just not so sure anymore. Here are some bytes excerpted from her interview with Para Todos magazine. It's got many Latinos saying, 'What in the heezy?!'

'I've got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out.'

'My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose.'

'My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me. So I never felt connected or attached to any race specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere.'

um..yeah i just lost soooooooo much respect for esa puta.

'Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose.' UM who fuking says that??? you want to cut loose from your cultural ties, um if it hadn't been for all those 'seed spreading' relatives from years ago--her stupid asss wouldn't be alive.

i hope these aren't true comments, but that is just disgusting to me. everyone should embrace their heritage and be proud of it, not try and 'cut loose' from it!

My thoughts exactly. That 'cut loose' part really ticked me off. If she doesn't want to be associated with her heritage then she should change her last name to a more 'Americanized' one since she apparently does not want to be with us Latinos.

I am a 1st generation american, my mother is colombian and my father armenian - i am very proud of who i am. I think she is very ignorant to be ashamed of such a rich culture. She should be more ashamed of what she said.

I can see where she's coming from though. Those quotes can also be taken out of context.

I think they twisted her words. I read a transcript of the original interview and what was actually written about her was very different from what she actually said.

All I know is that this may not be the first time she has made comments like these. Latina Magazine has been on her case for a while now about not wanting to be considered Latina because she is 5th generation or so.

This is how things can go wrong. I read on another board where she mentions that because Cameron Diaz father is cuban no one associates her with being Latin cause she is blonde. THIS IS SO TRUE.

I also believe her comments were taken out of context. Now her father on the other hand has major issues. It says that George Lopez walked up to him speaking spanish and he said dont dare talk to him in spanish.

Exactly - this is NOT by any means the first time she's made comments like this. I saw a clip of her actually saying something to this effect (it was just the one question they asked her, so there's no way it could have been taken out of context).

Whatever. She's an assss to say she's proud of her last name but also apparently happy about finally cutting loose. Seriously, then don't go to any Latin events and present because guess what, that just propagates a latin image to you! I mean, she LOOKS latina! If you don't want to be considered latina, stay away from all that. By the way, I think she's an assss for even wanting to not be considered latina. Whatever.

I read the same thing about Cameron Diaz, which is true.

While I understand why you would be upset by her comments I tried to understand where she may be coming from... I am 1st generation Greek & very proud of it &o I do not feel ashamed at all--
But, I do understand when she says that she never felt accepted by either side. When I go to Greece I am the American... in America everyone asks me (especially growing up) my ethnicity and called me Greek. But I am an American-- why do people need to know where my parents and ancestors are from?

She says she doesn't feel the connection to her Latin roots-- she isn't necessarily putting those roots down. She states that her grandfather tried to distance himself from those roots and she feels she has finally been accepted as an American. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting people to not question where your grandparents are from-- she was born here-- she wants to be recognized for that. Maybe she was trying to express being proud of your American roots & it came out a little wrong?

(Just trying to give another interpretation.)
