It was SO great to meet you today! That dress looked fabulous on you but if it is out of your price range, you should wait. You've got a great figure and I'm sure a ton of dresses will look fabulous. Good luck with your reception venue search and let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Laurapete - longer than i anticipated.....
Ha ha ha! I just came on line to write YOU! And here you were writing me! And let me just say, seeing your dress on you made me re-think the one I had on! You looked gorgeous!!! Perfect for a beach affair. And how funny that we have the exact same ring, I mean down to the design we copied it from (love Harry Winston)! But you are right about the price - it is over my budget, in fact, about double my budget - I went to another salon after that and got even more confused. How long did it take you to find your dress. I am starting to get disgusted b/c I feel I am veering away from the original look I wanted. I wanted a completed straight, form fitting gown but I am finding that not many places have many of those. So then I start looking at controlled, narrow A-lines (like the one today) or trumpet/mermaid skirts - to which i always say 'can I make this straight?' and they say yes or probably or something like that (I have been warned not to get my hopes up about that b/c they say yes upfront but then after you buy it and take it to the seamstress they are like 'oh no, we can't do that with that bias cut...' Also, people keep telling me that I will look too much like a bridesmaid of like I am wearing a nightgown if I go with that look. I know I should only take what others say with a grain of salt but i have to admit it gets me confused....and stressed! WHEW! I didn't realize I had so much to vent about! SORRY But now I feel better
So, your family must think we are nuts with this chat room but I think I found a new buddy!

It really can get confusing - I mean if you have a small frame (like us) alot of styles look good and even though I know we shouldn't complain, it makes it harder to narrow down the choices!!! I originally wanted a sheath and tried on about 50+ dresses (no, I'm not kidding) before I found that one at Wedding Salon. I just didn't want to take it off and felt really pretty in it even though it wasn't exactly what I had in mind at first. But I did try on a bunch of sheathy ones - have you looked at the Bridal Atelier in NYC? I would highly recommend it before you make any decisions.
Don't listen to what others say and don't take too many people with you when you try on - when you find the dress you will know and you won't care what anyone else says. I promise. And I'm positive you will look gorgeous in whatever you go with. No one will mistake you for a bridesmaid (you'll be wearing all white and a VEIL for Chrissakes!)
Do you live in NYC? PS - I told me FI how we had the same ring etc etc. I think he's the one who thinks I'm crazy with this board!!!

Re: Laurapete - longer than i anticipated.....
I actually lived in Oyster Bay my entire life with a brief 2 year stint in the city, then in Queens. THen after my landlord set me up on a BLIND DATE with my fiance I moved in with him. In Jersey (ugh). But I work in the city so I am all other the place. But I am not opposed to looking in the city at all. And it makes me feel a little better that there are people out that were as undecided as me about dresses. You sound like you wanted a very similar look as I do. So you can tell me all about which places have the most of that style! I think I might go back and try on your dress too . But I agree with you that I feel guilty complaining b/c my friend was like 'sh**, I would have to just by the first on that fit me!' But we really are lucky. By the way, what are you doing for a headpiece with that dress?
P.S. - I Forum Mailed you.....

I FMed you back....by the way, I tried on a few veils today and I think I'm gonna go with a cathedral length or at least fingertip, veeerry simple and no pouf! Now if my **** hair would just GROW, I'd be all set.

Re: Laurapete - longer than i anticipated.....
OH MY GOD! I have the SAME problem! Up until 2 months ago my hair was 9 inches longer. I chopped it and then 2 weeks later he proposed! Now I hate it! It;s too short! But I am not worried b/c I have plennnnnty time for it to grow. But anyway, I agree with you 100% about the veil lenths - those are also the 2 choice I would go with. I saw the fingertip on you and it was beautiful but I am also a huge fan of the cathedral lenth. I would imagine it is windy at that location - would that have an effect on which veil you choose?
