How does that work - do I have to go out and find my own lawyer first?

You dont need a lawyer until you are ready to go to contract. I dosent hurt to speak to a few and get quotes before hand. One less thing to research when making an offer.

Thank you Fran
Where can I go to look? Well, I know about legal directories - hell I work with tons of lawyers - but they all do corporate stuff. Is there a website for residential real estate lawyers? Or will my r.e. agent give me a list?

My real estate agent gave me a list of people that they have worked with.
Do any of your lawyer friends know anyone in the real estate area?

Have any of your friends used a RE atty they would recommend? My mother used one for her closing and I have to say she was an absolute pleasure - she's all the way out in Great River though.

FranM is correct, you dont need an attorney until you have found a house and your bid is accepted.

Hi Danielle, I'm not really 'friends' with the lawyers, I work for them and I wouldn't ask them...kinda weird ya know? But I do have a lawyer friend that I found out works as a RE lawyer - but for commercial RE. But she may be able to give me some pointers.
And some people FM'd me which I was very happy and grateful for! Thanks.
