leaving early and taking CPs...

Original post by Kara and Todd

No idea why I just thought of this again...

If you left a wedding early (say 30-45 mins), would you take a CP with you?

A guest at my wedding (a very annoying guest, beyond quirky and NOT someone I'm close to) left the wedding 45 minutes early and took the CP from her table.

I was so stunned I didn't know what to say. Why would you take a CP if you're leaving early! Seriously... W T H? Everyone else was still there - few people left early... So strange.

Not to mention the fact that we did NOT do a CP give-away game nor had we told anyone they could take the CP home... strange.

Like I said, I'm no longer worried about it, but I found it extremely rude.

People are so effing strange... Is this normal and maybe I'm missing something?

I didn't care if people wanted to take one home, but (1) ask me or my parents and (2) don't expect to take it if you're leaving early! They are my wedding decorations and should be there for the ENTIRE wedding.

Thankfully we sat this woman in the back corner table. If they were up front, I think I'd have told her to put it back.

That is horrible!! But, people do the most craziest things. I wonder how you tell them not to take it. Do you make an announcement stating not to take the cp's because the vases belong to the florist.

Everyone does this-there really is no etiquette on taking the cp if you dont do a giveaway, usually those sitting at the table talk about who will take it and thats who takes it.

Honestly, I had no idea people even took centerpieces at weddings. It makes sense just never had it happen in my family.

Ditto on the weirdness. Like the others, at most weddings I've been to, the bride and groom just tell the guests to take them or there's a giveaway game.

I would never take the CP if I were leaving early...then the table looks bare for the rest of the night...some people are NUTS!!!

You would swear she is acting like the mother of the bride or something. She sounds snotty. People like that make me want to kick them in the head.

You have every right to be annoyed.

Well, that's a giant problem for people who RENT vases and CANNOT give away the CPs.

And I disagree that there's no etiquette on it. You don't take something that isn't yours without permission... so unless someone tells you it's okay to take a CP, it's NOT.

ETA - and you don't take a CP from a wedding when you leave 45 minutes early... There was almost a quarter of my reception left!

I wouldn't take a centerpiece from any wedding ever! Thats just weird! What made them think it was okay to do that!? Was it supposed to be returned to the florist? Im doing all candles and bud vases and its non of them are mone- they are all being borrowed from my aunt and sister, so i really hope no one takes them!!!

No, they were wreath CPs wit pillar candles, so they didn't have to be returned luckily. If so, I'd have made her put it back. I just didn't know what to say. I was more upset that she left early and took it. Had she taken it at the end of the night, I wouldn't have cared - and probably wouldn't have even noticed.
