Lately I have been worried about leaving home. I stayed home for college and now I will be moving out soon. I feel like a litte homesick kid already. My family is so close and it's only me, my mom, dad, and brother (who is leaving for college the same month as my wedding). I feel like it's all happening so fast and my 'childhood' is really over. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to being married and starting my own life, but I am a little scared. Does this sound silly to anyone?

Re: Leaving home
definitely not!!! I am totally with you - I stayed home for college and am moving out of the house for the first time once we're married. Although - I am not that close with my family - I'm still having lots of conflicted feelings about moving out!

No it does not sound silly, me personally I could not wait to get out of my house. But, after awhile I missed the fun of being home and having my family on my side and always being my strength.
Dont worry too much, you will get used to it and you will still have someone rooting for you-and no one ever said you had to grow up just b/c you are moving out! FH and I are like 10 year olds all the time

Re: Leaving home
don't worry, making any kind of big change is hard for many reasons. the nice thing about moving out is that it opens up a new chapter in your relationship with your parents. you'll be relating to them in a whole new way, more like peers than parents. you'll be surprised at how nice it is to be more on the same level as them & unless you're moving far away you'll still see them plenty. I moved over an hour away to move in with FH & I still make an effort to see my mom. Its all what you make of it! Being on your own for the first time can be intimidating, but in the end you'll love it!

Re: Leaving home
I feel the same way...my mom and step-father just bought a house in deer park. My mom and I are sooo close. I cannot wait to get married and live with FH but I know I am going to miss my mom alot..sitting at the kitchen table talking or helping her out with something around the house..
I will be spending alot of time there on the weekends I think.

Re: Leaving home
I don't think it sounds silly at all. Leaving home is a transition, and sometimes change can be difficult because it might mean delving in to the unknown. It's perfectly normal to have feelings of apprehension right now, even though this is such an exciting time.

I agree with you 100%. I am so excited to be getting married but I am sad about leaving my family. But I keep telling myself that everyone does it so it can't be that bad. And I can call whenever I want.

Re: Leaving home
Not silly at all. I was just having that convo w fh last night. I am the last one to live my mom's house. I've lived here my entire life... and am very close w my mom... it's going to be hard. But I guess this is life and we must start our own venture and know our family will miss us too and always be near.

Same here. It is scary to move out. I love living at home, but I can't wait to move in with FH. My dad offered to build onto our house so FH and I could live there together.

Re: Leaving home
I feel exactly the same way. I went away to college, but was very homesick and then ended up transferring closer to home. I have never lived on my own except college and everytime I think about leaving home I get teary eyed. I can admit it, my mom spoils me! she cooks dinner every night for me and whenever I ask her to do something she does it. I am very lucky.
It is like a reality check that I am growing up. I am looking forward to spending the rest of my life with my FH but I know it will be a BIG adjustment for me.

I am in the same boat. I am the last child to get married and I often worry about leaving my parents. But then I tell myself that I am starting a new chapter in my life and over time I will get used to not being in my house.

I feel the same way, a bit. I mean, I am very much looking forward to living with FH, and I feel like I'm ready to really have a place of my own (well, our own)... but on the other hand, it's SO strange to think of my parents' house not being 'home' anymore.
I went away for college, but I was so lonely and homesick the whole time - it didn't help that FH and I were long distance for all four years.
So now, to think about even the little things, like not being home to light the Chanukah candles every night for 8 nights with my parents, moving all of my things out of my room... even going away to college, I still had all of those things when I came home. It feels strange - and it feels even worse because my sister is going to college about a month before my wedding, so my parents are pretty much getting abandoned all at once - my brother moved out last year - after 26 years of having at least one kid in the house. So I feel kind of guilty about that.
So, no, you're definitely not the only one who has some reservations about moving out!

I feel the same way. It's going to be very hard to leave, but also so great to start my new life with my husband. BUt when I first got engaged, I remember crying one night b/c I was going to miss my house and family so much!

omg!!!!!!!!!! thats exactly how i feel .....ur not alone AT ALLLLLL....i just feel like im in between two worlds right now the home world that ive always known, during my week days and then the home that im building with moving all my stuff and shower presents etc, that i see on the weekends when im w fh at our apt (he's living there)...its like im in limbo on the weekdays comfortable at parents house and weekends comfortable at my soon to be home....this is the weirdest feeling ever filled with fears, saddness, anxiety, excitement and happiness

Re: Leaving home
That must be hard for your parents too. They are loosing both children in the same month. It won't even be a gradual change for them. Change is hard and being on your own is hard.....life is hard. But the best part about being afraid is to be afraid and do it anyway. Then you see that there was really nothing to be afraid of to begin with. Sure it's scary being on your own bc now you are an adult- OFFICIALLY! But think of all the wonderful things you have to look foward to. Husband, house, kids, car payment, mortgage payment... It's not so bad and it's even better when it's with someone you love and trust!

Re: Leaving home
i definately know what u mean. I've never left my home. my family and i are soooooo close, taht i'm a bit sad taht i won;t be coming home after work anymore, or i won't be getting up in the mornings and giving everyone big hugs and kisses. now with my mom sick and all, i feel really sad, leaving. i know that I'm not going anywhre far, like out of state or something, but it won't be the same.. so i know how u feel i want to be married to the love of my life, and i can't wait to move in with him, but I'm just gonna miss my family sooooooo much, words can't describe....
