Leaving home

Original post by Val

Lately I have been worried about leaving home. I stayed home for college and now I will be moving out soon. I feel like a litte homesick kid already. My family is so close and it's only me, my mom, dad, and brother (who is leaving for college the same month as my wedding). I feel like it's all happening so fast and my 'childhood' is really over. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to being married and starting my own life, but I am a little scared. Does this sound silly to anyone?

Re: Leaving home

No, not silly, I thought the same thing as my dad and I were hanging the Christmas lights this year. He reminded me that next year he will be coming to me to help me do it. It felt like a real 'Lifetime movie' moment, but it is very real kind of sad. I'll miss my little bedroom and having my parents as my roomies, but I am also excited to be with FH every night! Bittersweet! Hopefully we won't move too far.

I felt the same way when I moved in with Fi. You will be alright, it does take some time to getting use to and for me it was also hard to share a bed with some one. Just remember the door is always open for you when you want to go home to your parents and just thinking about this, for me, made things a little better. You will be fine

Aw, of course that's completely normal. At first it will feel strange to go back to your house, to me it didn't feel like my house anymore. (FH and I moved in a year and 1/2 ago.)
Even though I had lived on my own before, something about starting your 'life' with the soon to be husband, or husband, just feels so Forever.

You'll really end up being so excited living together, that you won't feel the saddness you're anticipating. ITS SO FUN! hee hee

I'll tell you one thing though, there will never be anything like coming home and lying in your old room or hanging out in your old livingroom. It's the comfy-est and best feeling

Re: Leaving home

I know exactly how you feel. I moved out of my childhood home in July to live with FH and I cried during the weeks before I moved and for a few weeks after I moved. I felt such a mix of emotions...happiness, anxiety, excitement, ect. I felt like all of a sudden I was a real grown up and that my childhood was officially over. I was so sad to leave my pets too! I also had some guilt about leaving my mom. She has my sister who is 12 and my step dad, but we have always been really close. I only moved a town away too and I still felt this way. Don't get me wrong, once the initial adjustment passed I love living here with FH. It's so wonderful waking up together and going to sleep together. It was a little tough at first adjusting to sharing a bed with someone, but now I would have trouble sleeping without him. It's just such a comfort having him there. It's also so nice having our own space and a home to call 'ours.' It's the greatest feeling of having someone you can depend on and that you take care of and visa versa. It's like a sleep over party every night.

Re: Leaving home

good, I am glad I am not the only one who is feeling this way as well. I am so happy to be getting married, but soooo sad to be leaving my home.

Also, I may be moving out of state, so that is like a double whammy!! Any advice for how to cope with the homesickness I will be experiencing???

I feel the same way. I have lived in the same house my whole life. it's all I've ever known. When i get married, I will be moving a 1/2 hour away. It doesn't sound like much but it means a whole new lifestyle for me. It's a little scary and sad but I feel that this is part of life....you have to grow up, move on, and experience new things. It might be difficult in the beginning but I love my FH and I can't wait to start our life together.

Re: Leaving home

Well ladies thanks for making me feel 'normal' well as close to it as I will ever be

You made me feel so much better so there are less freak out moments. We will survive!
