Re: leaving the reception

the only time ive seen the bride and groom leave earlier than guests is in the movies.

We were the last to leave and infact didnt leave until about 30 mins after everybody was gone. I also didnt change, i kept my dress on and went to the hotel in it too

Thats the craziest thing Ive heard so far lol. Not only are you the last to stay, you HAVE to stay to take care of tips and final payments.

yeah there were things to do after and not only didnt i want to leave earlier but i wouldve had to leave the party even earlier than that bc there were things we had to take care of first, its just too much time away from the party.

After we were done we went to the bridal suite. We had to figure out who will take what. Our parents had to take some things with them such as the top of our cake, then our table runners which were ours, my table numbers, our cardbox. The RH also gave us a big box of different stuff we had at VH, plus our toasting flutes and cake cutter. We had to make sure these things were being taken care of. Also we got tuxes from tuxedo park and they have a service where they said all the guys can leave their tuxes at JT and they pick it up the next day. So we made sure we had all the tuxes to give to our bridal attendant, the guys had left it in the closet. We had to gather all our things, plus we had scheduled the pick up limo for 2am so this would give us time from end of reception until pick up

'Back in the day' when receptions weren't as big and expensive, guests waved the bride and groom off and kept partying, but nowadays, most people stick around to get enjoy the big bash!!!

I'm not going to change, because I figure my dress is worth the money I'm spending if I work it out to a 'per hour' cost . . . . I might even sleep in it.

I think it was an old tradition for the B&G to leave the reception before their guests.

We're going to stay until the very end. I want to make sure all my stuff is packed up and ready to go and nothing is lost in transit.

And that dress will be on me the entire day. I don't plan on taking it off until me and FH hit the bed.

Exactly what I was thinking!! We're going to do this too. I can't imagine leaving early!!

If you've ever seen the old original B&W version of 'Father of the Bride' with Spencer Tracy & Elizabeth Taylor, towards the end of the movie, she goes upstairs, changes into traditional 'travelling clothes' and she and her new husband come down the stairs as guests wave their goodbyes. It was an old tradition of leaving right away for your honeymoon, so brides would not only buy their wedding gown, but also a suit or dress to wear that night to travel.
